Dawson Creek

So on Sunday the Vancouver Province had a big article splashed on the front page regarding Dawson Creek. It is apparently the first city in BC (canada?) to have 0% unemployment. It was also claimed that the AVERAGE salary is 250,000.00

Is this true? I went onto multiple job search sites looking, most all the jobs available there seem to be service jobs @ 9-13/h doing things like cleaning rooms and washing dishes. The only Class 1 I saw was for a front-load garbage truck starting at 20/hour.

Whats the story up there? A fellow I know here said they're looking to hire for 900 trucking jobs up that way in the peace region. again, true?

If so I'm gonna pack tonight and head there.

 

Yeah thats the article I was looking at.. I am curious as to what is happening up there in actual fact. If it is 0% then you'd just have to roll into town with a ' I'm a class one, looking for work ' sticker on your car and boom. But reality of course isn't that way - As I've been talking to thelongwalker and nate980 it seems that while companies are advertising for many many jobs, it seems few are actually hiring. I don't get it. My nephew works for Devon and says rig moves are being delayed, trucks are idle etc, they just can't find the drivers. I am planning a trip up there the last week of december to see family, I might hit up a few places along the way during the first week of january just to see whats what. That sort of money is.. tantalizing. But moreso the availability of work since OTR companies all seem like they want more of you than they're willing to give back and nothing locally is really panning out.
