Sounds like all is going great. Was TWIC still in truck sales office? Girl that did mine was very nice. Had to go back 10 days later and p/u. You pick out 8 digit PIN # and enter it a couple or three times into scanner thingi she has. And you are good to go. Most places. Seems like it was $135. because I had HAZMAT. FT Worth used to be Ceramic Cooling Tower. Dated a girl there for 4 yrs. Nice place. Right on 820 near 35, 287, others.Mack/Volvo, Shaker, and new Rush center are right across hwy. Stay away from all those tittie bars. They are all over that side of town.
I'm sure the good times will be a lot more than the bad that always come in this industry. Working for people that treat you decent means a lot. Sounds like they/ are taking #### good care of you. Just too much Mexican food. LOL There is good restaurant called the Hitchin Post on 35 at 500 exit on N side of Gainesville. Old school truck stop . All cooked when you order it. Used to pick up tanks just down the road at Titan Tank every Friday for 18 months. Also place that makes wind blades next door. Sure they know all about that one. They haul or used to haul a bunch of blades.
Keep up the great reports. Nice to hear about good company. Not many left .:biggrin_25525:

AT, sounds like things are going well and they are treating you VERY WELL so far. Sounds like a great company.

Maybe I'll give it a shot in a few years once I have some experience under my belt!!

    You can train me!! :biggrin_2559:

Your old company called me again today "just to check on me" and my progress in school. I was pleased and very impressed that she would call me to see how it was going, etc.

Nice, personal touch. I appreciated it.

Really glad things are going so well for you so far. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time there and hopefully make some bucks in the process.

Take care. Keep us posted! (I know that you will! :biggrin_2559: )

You're being paid per mile to haul freight. That freight has to get on and off the truck somehow in order for you to haul it, and that is going to take time...time when the truck is NOT rolling down the road. This time spent loading and unloading is going to be factored into the freight rate charged by the carrier to the customer, and then you see that either in your percentage of the freight rate if you are paid on percentage, or in your mileage rate if you are paid by the mile.

Now the misconception you and others typically make is that since you are paid by the mile, you assume nothing else is compensated...because it isn't spelled out for you in an easy-to-read format. However, if you wanted it to be broken down so that you could actually SEE all of the "extras" that are included in your per-mile rate, you'd think you got a pay cut because the per-mile rate would be lower.

For example, if you are paid $0.40/mile for a 1000 mile haul, you are going to receive $400 for that load. Assuming you average 50 mph during your driving time, you'll complete the driving portion of the run in 20 hours...or $20/hour. However, they aren't paying you $20/hour to do the run...your carrier has figured in 2 hours for loading, 2 hours for unloading, and another hour for a fuel stop, 2 pre-trips, 2 post-trips, etc...so it's a 25 hour run....$16/hour.

So $15/hour detention pay after the 2 hours is completed is on par with what you would be expected to make during your work day.

Now if you want itemized pay for each and every task, they'll pay you $15/hour for fueling, pre-trips/post-trips, loading & unloading...so you'll get $75 for the line 4 work, and $325 for the line 3 work. In other words, you're down to $0.325/mile...but hey, at least you can see that you're getting paid for everything now, right?

Each and every load is going to have line 4 time associated with it. This is nothing new. Carriers know this. Drivers know this. The pay reflects this. It may not be obvious, but it is all factored in.

I think it's more that At's threads are popular and lots of people post on it. Miss a couple of days and you got 3 or 4 pages to read. :biggrin_25525:
