i already have my hazmat, i was wondering if i had to renew it every year, cant remember if thats the deal.
i am an ex felon so i can never carry a gun. At nabors, you cant carry a gun and alot of these lease sites have signs that say you cant carry a gun lol. As long as you are on a company site, nabors can search you or you vehicle any time they want......they didnt say anything about flame throwers though.
yep, 30 questions here in texas and i cant remeber how many it was in california. Ive personally blown so much money with these tests in california and then renewing it all in texas a month later lol.
yep, i try to not eat meat of any kind because i like animals but i dont have any problems with people eating meat, meat is good, we are all animals......i'll take a few beers though!
yeah, hazmat is a fairly easy test if you skim through the hand book. Its all a process and a bit of a gamble because it costs you the tsa fee wether you pass their screening or not. Welcome to socialism guys, you'll need a permit to take a dump soon.
i know for a fact the only thing you have to do is transfer your cdl which is just some paper work (and some money too of course) and you will only have to re-take the test for hazmat and go get your finger prints for tsa and send them your blood money......i know for a fact this applies for texas and north dakota because i went straight to the horses mouth in both states because i originally was going to work in north dakota and had a interview with gold spur over there.......lol, looking back on it all, theres no way in hell i would have passed gold spur's interview process as a rookie. At gold spur, they interview you and throw you in a truck and do a pretrip and a little driving to see what you know.....i may have passed because i know they really needed anyone with a strong heart beat, but even so, i would have looked like a fish out of water.
heres a good piece of advice guys, i dont care how good you are, when you back a trailer up, put it in reverse "low" and take your time and never be ashamed or afriad to take a pull up or two or 3 or 4......i'm telling you, your skills deteriorate after 10-12 hours. Alot of this crap you get from cdl school goes out the window but when it comes to backing up and all the stuff they feed you in school, always apply that in the real world.....yes, that espeacially means getting out of your truck and walking to the back of the truck to survey the area and whenever youre not sure, GET OUT AGAIN, ive gotten out 3 times before because you go and look and it looks like a ton of space out there and then you get back in your truck and before you know it, theres a tree in your miroor about ready to scrape the side of your truck.......the world changes when you get in that truck and use miroors, i dont know why its like that but it is for me.
i'm a felon but mine is 25 years ago, i think it depends on the crime and how old it is. I think here at nabors, it has to be over 10 years old?....but i'm not sure, you can call petey lazano, he is in charge of hiring for the general area, he knows everything and he's a nice guy. He basically hired me over the phone if what i told him was correct about my driving record and back ground.....i drove 1700 miles basically on his word for a interview and he didnt let me down, the guy is solid.
just call nabors in sonora and ask if he's there, i think he's there on thursdays and if he's not, say you are interested in employment and ask for his number.
I'm telling you guys, here at nabors and most other companies i'm sure, YOU got to go and get it. The tool does not work itself, you have to grab the tool and work it yourself, these jobs are no different, most people in the oilf field buisness are stretched thin, they aint gonna do much for you, you got to utilize the system and go and get it. You dont even really have to be that cordial or over polite because "maybe they are judging me on this phone call or because i'm new".......i'm tellin ya, nobody really cares, youre just another person or new face and they arent there to help as much as they are there just like a tool thats sitting on a work bench. I really think these are the last jobs in america where you have your freedom in a sense......but at the same time, its not a corporate socialist type deal where they are going to be taking care of you, YOU got to take care of yourself. Its more like an entity that provides the vehicle and sytem for you to go and make your money, it doesnt really feel like a job to be honest, it feels more like a gig or hustle for you to make your money. Sure, theres a big hiring process and mountain of paper work but i honestly believe its main purpose is to buffer themselves away from you as much as possible which is a good thing because it means you are on your own even more.
Its sort of like a club or fraternity, once you jump throuhgh all the hoops and you are finally on your own, you really feel the freedom and then others at work start to warm up to you more.....they werent warm at first lol and now that i'm on my own, i can understand it now.
I'm a stone cold rookie, gonna work the texas oil fields

No offence to rookietrucker, but 10-12 hours a day in the oilfield IS uncommon unless your job involves slip-seating. Then yea, 12 hour shifts. 15 is the maximum you can work and still be legal. I hit 15 hours almost every day - and we'll just leave it at that. -
Hey Paul, do you know if Nabors will hire student graduates?
-
Paul, I have read the whole post. Thought I'd finally jump in to tell you thanks, as well. I appreciate the good attitude and detailed description of the job and working for Nabors.
I am graduating on Wed the 14th from USTDS in Colorado. I will have a CDL-A woth Tanker and can get Hazmat, no problem. I have a resume and cover letter ready to go, so I will be calling Nabors by the end of next week. Basically, I am following in your foot steps.
I coming down alone and will live in a hotel until the end of summer when my family will be moving down. I just got off 7 years active duty with the Air Force and have driven various trucks and vehicles over the years. Just quit flying satellites and now going to driving truck. Guess which I think is more fun. Building next to mine probably guided your GPS!
I'll keep reading. Hope we get to meet.
