Once someone leaves, do you have to consolidate rooms or do you just get lucky and end up solo?..Im going to millington and they say there are 4 to a room there..Im not looking forward to sharing living space with 4 people as I am somewhat antisocial..so I keeep thinking maybe some of them will get sent home and I can share with just 2 or something..lol

Thanks for the insight madjeeper, I've been doing a lot of checking so far, and I know there is a lot more to do.
Thanks for the advice about the physical too, good to know.
I have a brother-in-law who is an owner operator for another company, he and I talked about this as well, and he thinks for my needs right now, a job with Swift, or the like would be a good way to get in the door. He has a frined of his wh's been with Swift for 9 or so years, and quite likes it.
Training plus a couple of years experience couldn't hurt in the long run.
I am a vet, but from the '70s. And then spent 31 years with the Postal Service, retiring in 2009. I was 55yrs, and I really retired too early.
I'm looking for an interesting job, that will have some excitment and challenge to it, and I think driving OTR would fit me pretty well for a few more years.

They sure will, after straight backing day they will reassign rooms to keep it @ 4 a room. Think of it this way, you really will not have time to be antisocial anyways. You get back and need to be up again before you even know it.

When I was there pretty much everyone was sleeping by about 9, trust me being on your feet on the range all day will tire everyone out.

That's impossible to compare home and on the road. Is your heat bill at home the same price as your fuel bill on the road?
Ok the point I was trying to make in my previous post is a driver would be able to save more not have to be on the road for a 34 then in a few days going home for home time.
I know how to cook, my wife knows how to cook so you cannot possibly compare spending at home and spending on the road.
You say you hear it all the time so are you saying that to say its not true, do you look on things to see where you can save more or that just don't matter to you?

BigBusMan, a certain amount of social skills will be required in this field. You are representing Swift every time you contact a customer, other drivers on the road and law enforcement. As a fellow driver running under Swift's authority, you will, by proxy, be representing me. If you treat customers like they are an inconvenience to you, rather than like someone who is paying your bills, you could very well lose that account for Swift.

Similarly, if you are too "blunt" with your office staff, you will be less likely to do well.

I would ask you to examine your priorities and decide whether you can utilize "social skills" at least for the brief time you will be in contact with people in the course of your job. If you can't, I would encourage you to find a field in which you will not be in contact with others at all. Or, go work for JB Hunt.

LoL..Of course I can utilize social skills enough to get by, I have been a school bus driver for 8 years, I know how to be very sweet and nice to people who I really would like to tell to F'off..LoL...I also have a huge amount of patience and dont get upset very easily, Im also pretty good at smoozing the office staff as well..it's the only way to get work at my current job..lol..I just have low tolerence for disrespect and ######## stories..and being aspergerian I sometimes say things in a way that people find offensive even though I dont mean to be, and quite often people take my comments completely different then the way I mean them to be, and also I sometimes experiance very high anxiety in new social situations, which tends to either 1.Make me talk to much, or 2. Not talk at all which has lead to people not likeing me for both of those reasons, but I dont think interacting with coworkers, shippers, DM's etc will be a problem..just saying Im not sure how I will handle being stuffed in a room with 4 strangers for 3 weeks..could be OK..could turn out horrible..either way my priority is to make a living at this and to provide for my family..regardless of what others opinions of me are..:biggrin_255:
