    yes, absolutely.

throw the resume in the garbage, stop using the word "hope" and i'll see you when you get here. The oil field is waiting for you. Hmmmm, dont know if you want to follow directly in my footsteps but i get what you are saying and i apreciate it and i wish you luck.......but i'm not going to lie, the trail i leave behind is dangerous and i'm prepared for death, there isnt a night that goes by where my butthole doesnt pucker tight enough to make a diamond, i dont slow down, i simply trust that the road is straight ahead of me through the thick fog and on coming traffic has their lights on, my truck is not going to wash out into a ditch or over an over pass and i'm not going to fall asleep at the wheel even though i'm seeing double and "seeing things" as well......yet like i said, i got that govenor pegged out. I swear the roads ive driven on many times never feel or look the same twice, i really dont know why that is. I saw 3 otr wrecks tonight, not going to lie, driving a rig is dangerous, but i guess thats the rush. I suppose its up to the operator on how safe he wants to be but i always throw that out the window and just "trust" what i know. There are many times when i get angered that i drive with fear, i really hate that, i simply wont live with fear of death going down the road. I really dont know how to explain the feeling of going down a wet foggy 20 mile stretch of road thats relatively straight with gradual turns along the way and your doin the max of 65mph and the road is bumpy and wavy and you hit stretches where theres no reflectors on the road and you hit a thick patch of fog where you simply cant see anything......and i keep that gas pedal pegged......or how about the same thing except going into a tight lane turn with a couple rigs hauling ### your way and all you see is a gigantic glare and "your road" is judging by how those trucks were coming into the turn......i know there is more dangerous things in this world but ###### if what i'm describing aint dangerous.......and i live for every moment of it, its a total rush. Seriously, driving at night aint no joke, most people cant handle it and thats what motivates me more. Every time those rigs come my way in those situations, i grip that wheel tight and feel the devil bite my ###, i hate it but love it at the same time.....thats the rush. Theres a saying in the oil field, "go and get it", when i get dispatched for a load, you GO AND GET IT and many of us out here got that mind set, its a type of fever i guess, danger and money, its definately something that calls to a man, dont know how to explain it.....and its all out here for you.

    sounds like my exact story

theres no risk, the job is waiting for you.

thats true and thats a tough choice, i myself just let fate deside it, i typed nabors texas into google and got the sonora location and when i finally drove into town, i never even realised it was going to be everything i was looking for a long time. Theres only 4k people here, theres basically nothing here and thats just the way i like it. I been to a lot of little towns around here and i think its really funny how i like sonora infinately more than the other towns. If someone showed me videos of these towns ahead of time, i would have picked sonora, its perfect, 277 and I 10 run through here including frontage roads like 1312 and 3130 and within 5 minutes, you can drive in any direction and not see a soul, i really like it.

    10-4 buddy

we have one automatic that is new but the rest is 8, 10 and 13 speeds, i like the 8 speeds the most.....but i'll drive anything.

perhaps later i can talk about floating gears and how to drive on some of these lease roads, you try to baby the truck and you'll get owned. Theres ways to drive while loaded and you use the liquid surge in the trailer to help you shift and propell you down the road. Floating is mandatory here at my yard, NO DOUBLE CLUTCHING.....but when youre on your own, you can do what you want. I personally use a little clutch sometimes to release torque off the drive train to help me get into gears quicker while trying to slow down mostly.

    ok guys, see ya later.

went to san angelo today and took my wolverine boots back, they were torturing my heals, so i upgraded to some doc martens that are ###### and i also bought some fancy socks that cost about 5 bucks a pair. I really come to the conclusion that boots are gonna cost you 120 minimum, you spend less and youre gonna get screwed.

i felt like i was coming down with a cold today or the flu wich sucked but i think i been workin myself too much to the point of making myself physically ill......i'm sure glad i'm not really sick because that would suck, as far as being run down, i dont care.......i'll be hard at it tomorrow.

I just want to chime in too and tell you how much I appreciate this thread and your story, it has been very encouraging.

I just finished school and will be heading to TX on Sunday to visit my family for Christmas, and will probably be looking for some work while I am down there.

right, because gold spur makes you do a test ride, correct? Nabors doesnt do that, you get hired and sent out with a driver or different drivers and its up to the driver if he wants you to drive or not, some drivers never let you drive, some just ask if you know how to drive and if you say yeah, they let you drive all day, some will get on your nerves, some wont give a #### what you do which is cool.

personally, i dont see why they test drive a rookie out of driving school. Most schools, you still dont know jack s h i t when you get out and now you get thrown into a truck you have practically zero experience with and its a completely different animal. What do they expect from a rookie test drive? do they want to make sure you know how to turn a steeering wheel? I guess they can spot potential and who is lame but if they expect anything more from a rookie, i would think thats very unfair.....but its probably the case that they want to make sure youre not a lame a s s, so i'm sure you'll do just fine (unless youre lame lol) and just make sure that you show your are dead serious and trying HARD and i'm sure that will be good enough because i guarentee a stone cold rookie out of cdl school is not going to impress anyone with their driving skills......BUT DESIRE AND A DILLIGENT ATTITUDE IS ALL YOU NEED....just show it and you'll be fine.

by the way, i discussed some floating in your new thread:).....personally myself, i learned enough about floating and stuff from watching every youtube video i could find because i didnt know s h i t coming out of cdl school. I learned just enough off of youtube to be able to float in a real truck in the matter of 15 minutes, i wasnt great at it but i could get myself down the road and i wasnt grinding the crap out of gears.

lol, when nabors told me they had 13 speeds with a splitter, i got nervous as hell but i was determined. As soon as i got off the phone, i went to youtube and mentally and physically practiced shifting gears in my computer chair lol. It really helped.

somebody wrecked tonight at work. I was sent to haul the load out of their trailer. It was surreal. The trailer was on its side and the tractor was pointing up at a 45 degree angle. I wish i could have taken a picture of it but pics were not allowed.....plus since it was a serious moment and some of the supers and big boss were there, i made sure i made an extra good hand out there because lets face it, its not exactly funny. Nobody got hurt, i think they took a turn a little too fast or something on a lease road......like i said, this job is dangerous, theres no doubt about it. Ive personally got some of my trailer tires on the driver side off the ground and i wasnt screwing around one bit. You got a lot of weight in the trailer and its a high center of gravity and you have very uneven surfaces on some locations. I was barely going 2 miles an hour i'm sure but the ground i was coming off of was very uneven, i saw that trailer lean way over and a few of them tires come off the ground and i thought for sure i was rolling over......funny thing is though, i didnt get adrenalated or cared really, if i roll, well then, i roll......but you always learn something and even though i'll blaze a path through the fog or whatever, when it comes to the tricky situations, i am becoming more and more pro active, i'll really take my time and now i know a little more about things, fortunately, i havent had to learn the hard way and i think ive learned enough now that i can avoid those touchy situations by simply taking your time or getting out of the truck when you have the slightest doubt.

......but blazing down the road through the glaring fog and stuff, well thats pretty much straight forward and makes me the most nervous, like i said, i just hope my rig stays on the road or some other driver doesnt fall asleep and head on me into oblivion lol......its such a realistic possibility, but oh well, i love my job.
