Just finished reading this thread all the way through. It was interesting to see the emotional swing that you went through and all the Internet Rambo's. It's like a psychic throwing out general statements that the vast majority of people can relate to and then waiting for you to respond so they can tailor their reply to you specifically.

I've been driving for 17 years and the one constant throughout our industry is that every trucking company (from the Knights, Swifts, J.B.'s and Schneiders all the way down to the owner operators with a few trucks) has at least one employee who thinks it's the worst company ever and they do business only to afford them the opportunity to screw over their drivers. Most of those companies have quite a few employees with that opinion. Even the local companies have the same issues.

That being said, there are a lot of messed up companies with some really misguided management ideas that do some really stupid stuff. None of this is unique to trucking. What does seem to be unique to trucking is how quickly we, as a community, are so quick to advise a fellow truck driver (who we don't even know) to quit his job. I think it's a great example misery loving company!

Smaggs, don't let anyone talk you into quitting. Do what's best for you and let the rest of us be miserable on our own time. You're right about your work record. The more consistant it is the better. How you choose to achieve that consistency is your decision. I feel your frustration with Knight. I drove for the container division and experienced some of what you have expressed here, but, believe me, you will get these types of problems no matter where you go to some extent, even if you're the boss! Anyone who tells you their company doesn't have any of these same issues is blowing smoke up your arse.

Take some time and think it through and then do what you have to do for your sanity and peace of mind!:yes2557:

Got a new dispatcher. Things are okay. They are giving me home time for Crimmus and new years day. I'm trying to ramp up the miles. I'm considering teaming with one of my friends. If I do, I may take on a dedicated Phoenix-Denver route.

    customtanks Thanks this.

Trucking can be good. I'm not informed enough to tell anyone else wether or not they'd like it.

I'm happiest when I roll a lot of miles. I despise down time. I like to work hard, sleep hard and play bass hard. Try to find someone you can ride along with for a week or two. Search these forums.

    :)

Got my CDL through AIT Phoenix.

I think Knight has a school thing now, but I don't know any details.

Oh. I always get paid. Just wish I earned a higher rate. Not making bad money for a rookie, though.

Right now, things have been slow. It varies. Before the last few weeks, I was getting 2500 and sometimes 3500 a week. A little less at the moment, but my dispatcher is doing a great job, considering he's only been a dispatcher for about two weeks now. Nice guy and he seems to know his stuff, considering he's never driven or dispatched.

I've been in every western state, except South Dakota. I frequent California (I hate California) and I often go in this pattern.... Starting in Phoenix, ABQ, Denver, Cheyenne, various parts of Idaho followed by Oregon/Washington, back through Cali and then back to Phoenix. This pattern sometimes takes up to two weeks, depending on wether I do it counter-clockwise, or if I double back some of the way and repeat.

Here is a list of all the states I've been in as a trucker, though I've been in others as a four wheeler and resident...

    Washington
    Oregon
    California
    Arizona
    Nevada
    New Mexico
    Idaho
    Utah
    Montana
    Colorado
    Wyoming
    Nebraska
    Kansas
    North Dakota
    Oklahoma
    Texas
    Louisiana
    Mississippi
    Arkansas
    Missouri
    Tennessee
    Illinois
    Iowa
    Wisconsin
    Minnesota

I have not been in South Dakota yet. Somehow went right around that one...

I have lived in Pennsylvania and Virginia and have traveled through Indiana, Ohio, New York, Canada by Lake Erie, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania as a four wheeler and non-combination truck driver. Flatbed and box.

I'll have to make one of those pictorial views of where I've been sometime.
