Canadian drivers can only pu in Canada and deliver to the US, and then pu in US and go back. Intra-US stuff is a big NO NO.

I think Canadian trucks can P/U in the states and deliver in the states, however, they can only do that once, then they must leave the states.

For example, if they run to Los Angeles Ca and there are no loads going to where they need to go or near where they want to be in Canada. They can pick a load up that delivers in the states to get them close. Then they must DH out of the states into Canada.

A quick google search turned this up

As far as I know I can pick up close to my drop. And drop close to my load out of the us so I can reposition BUT... It all has to be in place BEFORE crossing the border, which is impossible... Any way, still going to look down the LS road, may work out, may not, not the only road I'm looking down at the moment. Time will tell!!

    LSAgent,

I dont have many questions to ask at this point. Between talking to other LS drivers and reading through 67098675257634756 pages of LS posts, I think I have a pretty good idea of how things work there. I am looking at LS very closely and considering making the move. I am out of MI and I would just like to know how it looks there in terms of LS freight in AND out. I have had difficulty with inbound and outbound freight with my current carrier.

Also, thanks for all the great info and posts that you all are submitting on this topic. I dont post on here much but I have learned a lot of great information on these threads.

JD, what are you pulling? Van loads in and out of MI have been very strong this year. It is one of the areas we try to get our drivers into becuase we know we can get a solid reload. I have said this on other threads but CSA is starting to play a role and I hear it about auto related loads. How are your carriers scores?

I can tell you right now that my rates from LS out of Detroit area from LS are under $1.50/mile. Your rate as a BCO would be a little less. But what I don't see is drop and hook freight. But some of this is places shutting down for the holidays so demand is a little slower than other areas.

Coming out of detroit with around a 120 mile deadhead, I can have you out of Ohio for well above $1.50 a mile on the flatbed side. The van side, I'll have to check on.

I am currently pulling reefer/van for Cr England. That should tell you the situation I am in. I am leased to them and I am just fed up. I imagine their scores are quite low considering our prepass has been taken away and every other day I have been getting messages on the QQ about rollovers. Its really terrible. I wont make this a ##### and moan thread about England but things here are just not good, at least not for me anymore. I am just ready for better things. My truck is paid off, and I do have a business head and I just know there is so much more out there than slaving for this company and dealing with the bs. The rollovers and accidents and just plain carelessness on the drivers end of things along with the disregard within the machine and too many layers of bureaucracy has me ready to run in the other direction. I dont mind deadheading at times but getting home always seems to be a challenge for them. I of course realize how LS works and dh miles etc. and that this would all be on me if I were to make the move. I was just wanting to know how freight looks in this area for LS to help me get a better idea of how easily i could get in and out and not eat so much in fuel costs etc.

I am interested in flatbed possibly in the future. Right now I just own my rig and pull their trailers. I have never pulled anything other than reefer/van so this is something I would have to learn more about. But I am definitely open to the idea. I suppose van freight is what I would be doing to begin with if I make the move to LS considering I do not own my own trailer.

If that's the case, you'll likely be pulling a van at LS. They will only let people with experience in flatbedding pull a flatbed right off the bat. Otherwise you have to put time in and apply to the flatbed division.

You should pm Bill. I was in a similar situation as you, sort of, but not entirely, the carrier I was at wasn't anywhere near as bad as England. Anyways I'm leased on with Bill's company and getting some awesome rates pulling a dry van trailer. Guaranteed better than the vast majority of dry van BCO's leased on at LS, probably better than some of their flat's guys the way things have been going lately. Even haul a lot of Landstar freight. A standup company in my O, nothing bad to say about them at all. Anyways, get in touch with Bill. You can do dry van or flats here. Bill does flats.I pull vans for the time being but plan on moving into flatbed sometime next summer or fall hopefully.
