I requested to stay out for Christmas. Seeing as I was in training in November they sent me home for thanksgiving. Since most drivers out there wanna get home for Christmas I told my fleet manager I'd stay out and just come home for new years. So I'm supposed to be home around the 28th. So far I'm headin that way, I deliver in Miami on the 24th and live 300 miles from there. So I might end up getting home early

I wanna stop the venting early. Every company knows who they can kind of screw over and who wont fall for the Okiedoke. they cant have everybody home at the same time and it is a logistical nightmare when too many drivers wanna go home. If you need to be home make it known if you gotta be there be willing to quit if it dont happen but if you are a half a// driver dont do that you may need a new job. but anyway if you need to be home stay on your dispatcher early and dont stray too far from home and make sure your truck dont break down cause then you will be eating xmas dinner at dominoes pizza

I was working on a TJ Maxx contract for a carrier once delivering from MA to MD . Two days before Christmas I was told to pick up a load in Baltimore going to Evansville , IN and go to a truckstop in NJ and swap trailers with an Evansville driver that was in SC picking up rolls of paper going to the MA terminal . This was before we had cell phones .
The next day one our drivers that had loaded at that papermill stopped to fuel at the truckstop where I was . He said the line had broken down at the mill and a bunch of PO'ed drivers were lined up waiting to be loaded . I called dispatch and they told me the trailer would he where I was in a couple of hours . Then I called the mill and they said it would be a few hours before they loaded any trailers .
    Stuff happens . I accept that . I don't accept being lied to .
I called dispatch back and asked if I had vacation coming . Yes . When could I take it ? Anytime I wanted . O.K. , the next 2 weeks .
I got the trailer 2 a.m. Christmas morning . By the end of my vacation I was driving for another carrier .

I got home...but 2 1/2 days late. Believe me, I had a nice chat with my dispatchers boss, not only about late hometime but other things too. Thanks to reading this board I know I can't be complaciant when it comes my job. If I don't let them know I will fight for what is rightfully mine (pay and hometime) then they will take advantage of me.

Here's to hoping all of you get home to celebrate with those you love...SAFELY!

I put in for being off 22nd through the 13th. Wife is at her parent's and it's just me and the kiddo. We are going to the zoo, we are going fishing, she is going to open her presents, we are going to watch the bowl games, we are going to watch all the penguins of madagascar back to back, and I'm going to try and download the rest of winx club. It's gonna be a blast. Happy Christmas everybody.

After being a company driver and missing many holidays I had to be home for getting home when I want is one of the main reasons I switched to a lease purchase program. When I want off I am taking off. Got home 12/21 and go back out 12/27.
