There isn't a piece of freight anywhere in this country that would make me not be home for Christmas. I spoke to our safety dept today and asked about our drivers being home. I was told that out of 160 drivers everyone of them will be where they want to be for Christmas. Last year our terminal looked like a long term parking lot at JFK airport.
did you want to be home for christmas, but aren't?

Being single, I always stayed out Christmas so the the parents could get home to their kids. One less driver to worry about. But they still got me home the majority of the time.
The couple times I did want to go home, I would plan it where I stayed out 6-7 weeks through Thanksgiving and I would be a priority.
Yeah, it's a job trying to get everyone home. I wouldn't go ballistic if you are one of the unlucky ones. Chances are pretty good some will miss a Christmas or two in their career. -
Finished up today at 2pm and off till Jan 2. Course we are home every night any way. I do need to go in next week and wash my filthy truck and do some polishing on the shiny parts. I did get the head ache rack done last week, looks good.

I had planned on being home, but they offerred me a run that delivers Tuesday in Texas about 20 miles from my sisters house and I have not seen her in over a year.
She will be home and I guess Christmas at her house on Monday. -
I didn't request home for xmas. It's not really a big deal at our home. Halloween is our xmas. But I do know #### little freight will deliver this weekend. I told my DM I don't have to be home for xmas, but if a load takes me past home with a long delivery time I wouldn't mind stopping by. I'm scheduled for hometime the 30th for new years (and I had to fight for that). I'm in va now picking up a load that delivers in columbus oh tomorrow. I live in pa right between i80 and i76 and there is a pretty good chance of getting a load headed east past home.

You know, I never really thanked those drivers that stood out during Christmas so the ones that need to go home could. I never once heard from any dispatcher that so and so is running this holiday so you and others could be home. So here it is guy's, thanks for your concern and thoughtfulness. It's very much appreciated. -
I did not have kids to go home to and others did.
Even now, I take runs that others will not because they want to be home and I will go out to California for a delivery the day after Christmas or New Years.
This year, I had not even called to get a load and they called me setting something up to be delivered next week. I decided it might be good to be down there on Sunday and spend Christmas with my sister.RickG Thanks this. -
I'm with CC and RM. I have no reason to be home for Christmas, so I stay out. But I am home every year for Thanksgiving.

I've never missed a Christmas yet. My kids are 12 and 7 and if I missed a Christmas because of work, I would turn in my truck on the spot.
Family always comes first.losttrucker and Wargames Thank this.
