    Technically, you are correct.
However I made the mistake of ASSUMING logic and reasoning would be used and everyone would be on the same page, I was wrong.......

Thank You!!! I was over looking the delivery of said fuel and the profits off of the 4-wheeler traffic. However that $0.0364 (figured rzl-dzl would like to see me correctly put it LOL) per gallon profit, where does this number come from?? Only reason I ask is, if I can purchase fuel at $0.05 to $0.50 off a gallon, does that mean they are taking a loss, or they only make money by selling to people who don't get cost-plus pricing. Which not alot of companies even offer it anymore so wouldnt it make their $0.0364 per gallon profit higher??

No you were trying to take a shot at someone, which is fine. You have no clue what kind of professional I am nor any of your business how I run my business, Especially off of something as trivial as "experience" on an internet forum. It drives me mad when people think experience means more knowledge then someone else, matter of fact we have a member here(kinghunter) who has less experience then alot of members, but has WAY more knowledge then some of the members who have driven for 10years. You claim 10 years, you could be a student, either way doesn't matter to me as long as you can argue a VALID point

First...let me thank you for using correct numeric illustration! LOL

For any outfit to claim...$0.05 to $0.50 savings per gallon...one needs to find out "savings in comparison to what"!

The $0.0364 figure came from the average of Chevron, 76, ARCO, Shell, and a few independents in CA (statewide study by Franchise State Board), then compared to other 7 Western States, 11 midwest, and 13 east (of Mississippi river) states. From the annual statement to stock holders of a certain investment group. (I am a member) It is a mail (snail mail) publication...they don't do the online stuff yet.

As to profit margins...the "reduced price" large purchasers (carrier companies) get, figure in to the elevated price when a credit card v cash is used for purchase. So quite often, the advertised "5cents to 50cents" savings is usually gleaned from comparing the elevated credit price to cash cost.

Ok my $0.05 to $0.50 savings is on pump cash price. Now, when I compare diesel prices from non-truck stations to truckstops the price is usually $0.05 up to $0.15 higher then the cash truckstop price, so would I be safe to "assume" that would make that number of $0.0364 per gallon profit be higher then the non-truck stations??

It all boils down to "average"....comparing lowest collected price to the highest collected price...

or totaling up all collected monies then dividing by total number of purchases thus arriving at the average.

Just depends on how the accountant wants to arrive at the average profit per sale.

Keep in mind....it is an advertising game...whichever outcome will produce the best result in garnering in more customers. Right back to the fact that in order to make a sale, you need to get a customer "in the door"! Vicious circle ain't it?!

So I guess the old saying of "numbers never lie; unless you want them to" rings true:biggrin_2559:
