I realize that getting all drivers home on christmas is tough, but they know it's coming, it's not like it came up from behind them and SURPRISE!!! I think a lot of it has to do with how far they can push before you snap, and say THAT'S IT, I'VE HAD ENOUGH!! Case in point; I told my dispatcher two weeks before Thanksgiving, that I will stay out for the Thanksgiving weekend but that I would like to be home on the 22nd of December. His words were, NO PROBLEM, that is plenty of notice. I said OK. Now, given the past history of my dispatcher and all of the notes on the QC at the end of each load, which he told me to put in there so that he wouldn't forget, I delivered my load to northern KY. on the 19th of December. I said ok, where is my next load pick up so I can start heading south to FL., his responce was, there isn't anything going to FL., but I got this load that delivers in Green Bay, WI. ON THE 21st. And my first thought was, HOW, DID I KNOW THAT?? Then I proceeded to tell him that I have a handful of cash in one hand, and a bus schedule in the other and it is your choice whether I take a truck or a bus to FL., I'm headed south for the Christmas. Well, long story short, the bickering went back and forth, and low and behold, there was a load to be picked up 15 minutes from where I was, so when I got there, the shipper started reading me the riot act and told me that they have been waiting on someone to come and get this load for about the last 5 hours. I told them that I was sorry, but I've only known about this load for about the last 15 minutes. Well, dispatcher comes back to me and says I hope your happy, that load don't deliver till Jan 2nd, and you are NOT swapping it out with anyone!!!! And I told him, THE HIM THE BAD PART ABOUT THAT WOULD BE????...........

I am another driver that choose to stay out so that a driver could get home. I was home last week and my son (he's 18) and I had our Christmas then. I won't be going home again until the middle of January.

Loads come out the last second or fall through or there are 3 loads in an area and 4 drivers. Is the load going the right direction? Is there a relay available? When everyone is going home, the relay picture gets slim. Someone that's slick can do multiple relays.
When 2.7 million drivers want to get home the same day and there are 2.5 million loads available..... things happen.
Some things you can't plan.apyles Thanks this. -
You said it.............NOTHING ELSE to say
