I am about to start school at Southeastern Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. The program is about 900 dollars plus about 80 for books. Fair price, in my mind. It is a 10 week program (every day from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm). I chose the community college route rather than just going to a truck company, because this school is on the list of acceptable schools for Crete Carrier and I think some other companies that do not have trucker-training. At 10 weeks I will not feel "rushed through" and I do not have to commit to the company I go to school with. In addition, this school has job fairs where you can meet many trucking company representatives and weigh the pros and cons of each company, and you are allowed to use their career services for life. The instructors are very knowledgeable about the trucking scene in the Mid Western area and can give recommendations and "match" students with companies that will be good fits for their needs. I like this because it is lower pressure, and will allow me to adapt to being a truck driver over a longer time (2.5 months) so that I will know exactly what I want to do by the time I am ready to get a real job.

I think finding a good fit starting out is the best insurance their is for being happy in a job.:biggrin_25525:

ok so lets say that c.r england is just as bad as everyone says it is.so what!!.if they are using the new students to get the deal of the century then arent the students also using them to get their class a drivers license.whats the big deal.you only have a 6 month obligation to work for them and then you can go work for whoever you please.6 months is nothing.especially if your one of the typical baggy drawer latin american pimp types they are so fond of hiring.6 months is more prescious to someone like me of 56 years of age but still not that much.

I am currently attending All State Career School in Pittsburgh, PA. It's 6 months and $10,000 but it's accredited and they have financial aid, PTDI, and a nice range with healthy trucks.

Des Moines Area Community College, Ankey IA.....TOP NOTCH! Although I had my CDL Class A and had experience, it wasn't OTR experience, thus the company that I was going to hire on with paid for me to attend which was a good deal. Everything about this school is Top Notch. If I got down that way more often, I'd swing in to visit.

Blue Horizon, out in Chicago, IL. It was cheapest at that time.

Really no complaints, got my CDL just fine, been driving for 6 years now.

Yes my friend, I whole heartily agree with you because I am using England to get my time in but remember the school is only good IF YOU PASS. When I went in November there was a whopping 75 percent fail rate.

I am really preaching this because I want people to realize before they go selling out and making the trip to the burns harbor yard that theres a good chance you may not make it. THis especially holds true if your brand new to truck driving, they don't have the time and personnel there to teach you enough in such short amount of time

I just went and got my permit today and found out beings that I have some miltary vehicle experience I dont have to take road test and just get my cdl..So I leave tommorow at 7 am to go out and team/train with my old man. He works for a local company and they are going to allow him to do it. Saved myself 6000

I went to a small school in Redding, CA called America Truck Schools LLC. I stopped off there over the summer and all the instructors that were there when i went through 6 years ago are gone. They only have like 3 trucks, 3 vans and a flat bed, they also has a small 2 axle day cab that they use for renting out. There was a campus in Eurkea CA on the coast just one guy and one truck and trailer, but not sure if its still operating there or not. I started out with Central Refridgerated now I drive for Crete.
