For all of you log book experts out there. I have been off the road for almost 3 years. It looks like I am going to be going back to work for FedEx Ground within the next couple of weeks. Can anyone tell me with the new HOS rules, can a team still use the split sleeper. I know when the new rules came out we were still permitted to use the split sleeper rule for solo operation. I heard that they either did away with that or were going to thanks to P.A.T.T. and C.R.A.S.H.. Any help on this one would be appreciated.

They did not do without split sleeper berth. Many will say they did, however that is not the truth! You can split break, however it changed from what you are used to. The only way to extend the 14 hour clock now is to take an 8 hour sleeper break. If you take a minimum of 2 but less than 8 now it will NOT extend that 14 hour clock, however will work towards the 8 hour break.
So now you must have @ least a minimum 2 hour break followed by an 8 hour break.
No more 3 + 7 etc.
I have a sticky thread on the most important threads of this section and it should give you a basic idea of that change.
It's up to you weather you want to do it or not. Most teams don't use a split anymore.
Feel free to ask more questions, I won't guarantee when I will reply, but I am sure by Sunday evening I will be on hereSarge Thanks this. -

Unfortunatly, it will have to be ten and ten. The driver can run 8 with a 2 hour break before or after the 8 hours, but for you to take over driving you will have to have 10 hours in the sleeper. I myself can't and never have been able to go ten straight but they have dictated that is "what I need". Hope this helps.

Thanks Storm -
None, they are not changing the split sleeper time rules. Who ownes the truck, I used to work for a couple of guys out there

Who were the bozo's that drafted hos for teams(i dont think it was ever done for teams but for solos). 10 and 10 is rediculous and counter to the original concerns for fatigue.

you could share it by switching every week or 2...... I'd say every 2 week or whenever you head out change who drives first.

Run 10 in 12 hours and switch. Steady schedule works better and is safer. When you adjust your bio-clock go forward not back.

Logsrus its the new split rules that screws up a lot of drivers because its so dang cofusing. Risly32 said it best. Do 10 hours of driving then switch. Granted I can't drive 10 hours without a break or two. Just be be sure to work out a signal with your co-driver,so neither of you get left behind.
