Well the only way around it for me is to go up to Quebec then through Ontario, I have such fond memories of WaWa Ontario, and down through Detroit.
Hummmmm
Reminding me of that old song ..... "Think they would think I've flipped if I went to L.A. by way of Omaha?
Or move to PA where all the work is anyway. Which is being seriously considered!

NE is another state that is trying to get into the ad valorem tax. I guess its a little known law they have on their books. Until recently they didn't bother to enforce it.
Or some thing like that on a news article I read. -
I was wondering why my driver had to pay $24 going into NM and $60 going out despite my truck having all 49 states listed on permit DMV gave me when I applied for apportioned plates. Didnt have to pay anything going in and out of AZ or TX. My permit is good till 1/9/12 and I still am waiting for actual plates. What gives ? why even include NM in application with DMV if I need to pay NM anyway ?

Oregon requires a $2,000 bond be posted to cover your tax. If you pay your quarterly tax on time you can get the bond back in a year or two. I don't recall the exact time frame. I rarely go to that area so if I do need to go then I just buy a one time trip permit at the port of entry. I can't see giving them a free loan for a year or two. At one time Oregon issued a separate base plate that you had to put on the front of your truck. It was read with white letters. Very hard to miss. They no longer require the tag, but check your DOT number to see if you are registered or have paid the trip permit fee. It is a little bit of a hassle, but you either pay the bond, buy a trip permit or avoid the state. I find it easier to just avoid the state most of the time. Rates are not worth the extra hassle or expense. If you look at what you pay to run Oregon miles you pay a higher tax rate than Washington or California. -
roadside they check on the computer & if you don't have it, they write you up.
The Fed's won the argument in court that they didn't want the sticker on the trucks but couldn't stop State from charging the HUT or maintaining the tractor specific registration cards.
That on top of $0.3925 per gal fuel tax... -
Always had a high IFTA during these couple of years.G/MAN Thanks this. -
We are working on our own authority and we were told that if we plan on going across state lines and just not in the state of Tx we didnt need a Tx Dot#.
