Only chance? I can think of a number of other countries BESIDES Mexico that would benefit from better trade relations with the US...

Well we care enough to recall millions in $$$ of suspect toys and remove tainted dog food from the shelves... We cared enough to send a message to China that they need to clean up their act.

Hogwash. What would be the advantage? The Chinese industrial machine is over producing goods and the US is their biggest customer. Devaluing the dollar wouldn't be just a China vs. US issue. The world-wide repercussions would be enormous...

Same crap for the same crap? I've got a better idea... Let's bolster the American economy by bringing in more raw materials and put Americans to work. Just like we used to..

That is no argument at all... If that were the case, why don't we support the Canadian economy by increasing our trade with them instead?

Possibly. But then again there's that "quality of goods" issue..

So, because we're unable to stop illegal immigration, we should embrace it? Woo the Hispanic vote while all the time increasing the numbers of Hispanics until they displace everyone else?

So I am curious how does the D.O.T. handle these Mexican truckers do they just shake there head and walk away.Is the safety regulation book printed in Spanish and English.Who gives them their dot physicals. How do you tell them to pull around back at the weigh stations or do they just get a pass.

I have never noticed but are tickets printed in English and Spanish.Maybe I should start to learn another language I could see how that could work in your favor if you frustrated them enough maybe they would just give up(just kidding).I really just don't see how this is good for us but if anybody can explain it to me I will gladly listen in English of course.Later:iroc:

Canada has its own lack of labor problem. No other nation is so close
and has the labor that Mexico has. With some fast food joints paying
$10 an hour in this country how are they going to open a new factory
with goods that can compete? It ain't going to happen so go ahead
and stick your head back in the sand and wish for the good old days.....

Exactly. Every week we have truckers that don't notice
weight limits and clearances on bridges. Things should
    get even more interesting.

    Where to start...

China: Over a billion people, all working for pennies.
Mexico: Not as many, but just as cheap.

    China: Corrupt government.
    Mexico: MORE corrupt government.

    China: Paint's Elmo with lead.
Mexico: Fill Elmo's head with crack...

Hmm... Seems as though we aren't any better of with either of them. This open border thing is going to do absolutely nothing to convince companies to move from Asia to Mexico.

It WILL get them to move from the US to Mexico.
More frieght from Asia will be diverted to Mexican ports as they're built.
Mexicans will be hauling ALL cross-border loads to and from Mexico.
Mexicans will not comply with the rules, or saftey standards.
People will be hurt or die in accidents caused by their lack of safety.

We are slowly selling our country to the lowest bidder. Eventualy we will all be shopping at Wal-Mart, because we won't be able to afford anyplace else on a Wal-Mart income.

Well you believe what you want, but it all comes down to money and how they can do things cheaper.
