I'd avoid CAT, at least the '08 or newer motors. I had a couple good ones back in the 90's but I have one Detroit and one CAT and the fuel mileage on the CAT stinks. Honestly I'd avoid the year trucks that have DPF on them all together - the EGR trucks are bad enough.

As someone else said, get the cheapest reliable truck you can find. Cheap trucks make just as much money as fancy ones but cost less!

I'm just finishing school. Going to be a company driver at least a few months but thinking of going o/o with lease. I've ask all my instructors and they are split onPeterbilt or Freightliner. I like them both with their features. One instructor did make a very good point for me to think about. He says there are Freightliner shops everywhere but not always shops for Peterbilt. As far as warranty work. Good luck with whatever you do.

TA truckstops have been added to the list of authorized shops to work on Freightliners and with this distinction they can do warranty work as well.

Lots of guys go L/O out of school. Most dont have the capital or net worth to BUY a truck and keep it up.Is it just me that thinks this thread is insane. The OP did'nt say anything about growing up in a trking family or being familiar with trks.Just got cdl and gonna ride along with a friend a couple trips and he knows everything about running a trking business.:biggrin_2559: :biggrin_2559:

Talked like he had been in const and if he could handle that every thing else is a cake walk. I have grown up in trucking, working on trucks since I could walk good . Owned many ! But if not personaly ready , can lose EVERYTHING !

I heard Kenworths are easy to work on......just a little tug on the front bumper and you get easy access to the entire engine.:biggrin_2559:
