Actually looking at the numbers. Central does not have the best lease program of large carriers. I think that the one at Crete is better. More prone to the driver eventually owning the truck.
Since the best way to make money is not with the new truck. It is with a good used one.

The thing is, Central doesn't present the lease as an ownership thing. In three presentations and two private conversations, they have always presented it as strictly renting the truck, betting that your fuel savings and business practices will outweigh your additional expenses. They will lease a truck for the duration of its warranty, then expect you to trade it in for a new(er) truck.

I'm probably not going to lease at all, my wife wants me to shoot for benefits rather than risky entrepreneurialism. But it's not like ownership is at all mentioned as a desireable outcome. In fact, they actively discourage you from thinking that you would ever own the truck. It's purely a rental deal. If you want to own a truck, save up and finance it on your own. I've heard that line three times from the leasing department.

I know BEANS about trucking, but leasing to a company goes against all the principles of RISK MANAGEMENT:
    1) You can only get your business from ONE SOURCE
    2) You can only get ONE RATE
    3) YOUR COSTS ARE VARIABLE --> FUEL being HIGHEST + maintenance
    4) YOU ASSUME ALL THE RISK--> trucking is risk 24/7 ++ platinum extra

So they may show you 3 times more the rate and give you more "options" but read this forum carefully before you sign anything and ruin your credit...

Also, don't you want to have a few years under your belt and KNOW FOR SURE if you LIKE trucking.... MAYBE you find out you hate it!!!!

    renting is pretty expensive.

you lose .07 cents for maintance. you don't get that money back. and the .14 for wear and tear. (or is it the other way around)

you dn't get the truck. and if you don't make the lease. you have a nice collections account on your credit.

the rent progrma sounds and looks good at first. but after that first year. it's ALL OVER WITH FOR UUUUUUUUUU.

Plus, why would you want to rent a truck from the company that gives you (or does not give you) freight.
A lease is a viable option for a large company. Thankfully not a business model that my company follows. My company pays cash for every truck. No payments, no lease.
They replace the trucks whenever they want too.
Recently they have been selling trucks for very good money. They bought them at cost in the recession. And now are selling them at near retail. Which is only 20k less than they bought them for close to 3 years ago.
Average age of trucks in fleet is 1.5 years. Average age of trailers is 3 years.
And they made money every quarter for the full recession. Not many managed that, while replacing their fleet.

If I was thinking about buying a truck. I would look to go to a company where I could get the best revenue per mile. Anything less than .98 cpm plus full FSC is not an option.
Plus I want my permits and road taxes covered by the company.
This is also something that is not too hard to find in a company.

I am starting to look at Central for school and to give them one year. My buddy just graduated from their school and is out with a Trainer right now on the East Coast.

My question is about past employment. I have two past employers wh are out of business, no way to get ahold of them at all. No way to verify. I heard that Central wants to be able to verify all past employment for the past ten years. That would be impossible for me. What to do?

Do you know people who knew that you worked for them and would be willing to say so? I was self employed as an insurance agent, I put down a couple of my clients (with their written permission for HIPPA purposes) as references to corroborate my self-employment. Bring tax records as well-- W2s or 1099s, as these document the sources of income.

Hey all I am new the site and the profession. I completed my CDL with no school just self studied and drove a friends truck for test. So I have class A with double/triples endorsment but no real experiance. CRE and Central are two of three I could find that will do some schooling and training for someone in my situation. I am attempting to decide between the two by tomorrow after when I have to leave home about 5 hours from SLC to start one of the two. the entries i have viewed so far have helped with ome pretty good info on Central seems mostly neg about CRE. Can anyone give me the reason Central would be better than CRE? I know I am cutting it close but I figure even if I have to decide while driving into SLC i will be ok because the two schools are close to one another. Any advice mostly just between these two companies because it seems there are not many other options without doing a full blown school from the beginning.

    thanks for your time
