10 meters is devided by the " normal " users into 3 main modes and several lesser used ones.

    28.000 - 28.299 mhz CW ( code ) and digital modes

    28.300 - 29.000 mhz USB Tech class can use 28.300 - 28.500 mhz

    29.000 - 29.700 AM on 29.010 - 29.150 mhz ( some stations ) and FM and FM repeaters

FM simplex is on 29.600 nation wide no tone needed

FM repeaters are on 29.620, 29.640, 29.660 and 29.680 mhz ( -100 khz for inputs to use a repeater you may need a tone )

SO what ever your radio covers you can hear HAMS on that part of the baND.

Yes fgb3 you are allowed to listen in to hams on your General Lee. Just no transmitting w/o a license. However since your General Lee is not a SSB radio and pretty much all of 10 meters is, you may not be able to make out what anyone is saying....it'll sound like Charlie Browns teacher.

Sounds like you might need to study up to become a ham, then get yourself a small dual bander ham radio like a Yaesu FT7900. Or get you a hand held handy-talkie radio, though their range isn't usually that good.

If you had a repeater directory of your local area kept on you/in your glovebox, that would give you even more folks to talk to.

    fgb3 Thanks this.

I have been into CB from way back (early teens) and I had a few friends that were into it also. Where I lived (SO Cal, Huntington Beach) there were many CB (if I may use this term) want-to-be ham operators out there using modified 1500 watt amps as well as "illegal freqs" (10 meter ham freqs). A lot of people started pinning coax because of CBers keying up on them. There where even fist fights over it. The hams just sat back and laughed at the stupidity. I always wanted to be a ham but the code stopped me. I got my ticket when the removed the code requirement. I am now studding for my Extra, it is a difficult task. I do have to say CB has it's place, but please folks let's keep it civil as we all have to stick together!
