Hey guys,
I had another question. The antron 99 should be here on Wednesday so maybe I'll have my stuff setup on Wednesday or Thursday. Right now, I have a Ranger 2950 being powered by a power supply in my house but was wondering if there was any real difference with using a mobile radio or ordering one of the actual big "base" radios. Do they still put out the basic 4 watts like mobile radios? or do they really make any kind of a difference???

all these radios are mobile radios powered by a 12 volt supply.Attached Files:

So, basically it's just called a base radio and is usually bigger to sit in one place? A mobile radio powered by a power supply serves the same purpose right?
I knew the law says that the radios are only supposed to supply 4 watts but I didn't know if this was different when referring to a base radio? I am assuming that a base radio may come with more options that a basic mobile radio would? -
A CB radio base or mobile is allwed only 4 watts. Most " base radios " the few that are still made are nothing but a mobile radio with a powersupply in the same case.
here are several more moble lradios I use as bases here ...Attached Files:

I've only owned one true base radio in my whole life, a Teaberry. All the rest were moble/power supply. I don't really like to talk on the radio. I like talking about radios. I like the process of setting up a good working station, either mobile or base, running down problems and fixing them, but don't find talking on one all that interesting. That said, I'm contemplating setting up another base station!!!

Cornfield, yes a base station is a 4 watt just like a mobile. The only real difference between a base and a mobile is a base has the power supply on the inside. That and a base is usually bigger. Other than that, they're virtually the same radio as a mobile.
In fact some base stations even have a 12 VDC hook up on the rear. Good for if you wanted to install the radio in a motorhome. -
Well that makes sense. I always wondered why base radios were so big and now I know. I can see why some of them are so much more than a mobile radio if they have a power supply built inside them. But, some of them are REALLY expensive.

IF I was to sell a CB radio with this level of filters like even a low end ham radio uses the cost would be too high and it would not sell.
