In my own situation....we now have my 90 year old father in law...bedridden ....requiring 24/7 care living with us. We made our dining room into his room....my daughter is separated from her husband....she and her 3 kids moved in a couple of years ago....I was laid off a year and a half ago....my wife and I started a flower shop....she's a wonderful designer....but we just can't work together. Flower shop is having a hard time making money....so I felt I needed to get a job. I live in a very depressed area...my background is advertising..and to continue in that field, I really need to relocate....can't do that. I've looked into taking a job in Chicago...which I could do...but I would have to set up an apartment and figure on some commuting....so,, that idea is a no starter,...this truck thing is not a bad alternative. My living expenses CAN be minimal.....if I stay out of the Truck Stop restaurants...and with this job with SNI, I am home 2 days a week. After a while...6 months or a year...I can look for other trucking jobs...dedicated runs....local.whatever.....but I have to pay some dues and get some experience. So, my wife is not wild about these no arrangements....but I have a job...and this part of it doesn't have to last forever. Every situation is different....but today we have cell phones...Skype....direct deposit....debit cards....it is much different today than even 5 years ago. As my friend Wedge says....thanks for reading. Best of luck....stay in touch. Mark

You deal with it by driving very slowly... or stopping.

Glad it worked out and you got some extra training. Keep up the remarks here. I enjoy reading all of them from us "old guys". I am starting school in March. I wanted to wait until after the winter just to get some experience driving before I had to face slippery roads.
Keep it up and best to you. Hope to see you OTR sometime.

Markus, here's a quick update for ya. I start private trucking school on Monday, have all my endorsements except HAZ going for it on Thurs. Schnieder and Gordon are on the top of my list. Both companies have good presence in Oregon, so getting home won't be much of an issue.

Have a good safe trip to Penn and Mass, talk soon

    Your Friend,
    La Pine Ron
