Unidens and Cobras are basically the same radios. But for as the 880 go's, the thing has only been on the market for about a month...if that! So it's going to be a while before anyone finds any problems I would think...

The Cobra 29 LX has been on the market for going on 2 years now. First version was the 50th anniversary edition the "LX LE" which I have. Only about 2000 were made...The LX version is basically the same as the LX LE, but has a clock on it (I think) and doesn't say "50th Anniversary" on it...

Cobra 29 LX retail around $125...
Uniden 880 retails about the same up to $135...

Did your 29 LX LE talk decent out of the box, or did you have to monkey with it?

Only thing I had done to mine was I had a variable power knob added where the Delta Tone knob was, so I can adjust my DK from 1/2 a watt to 5w's for my Amp... The stock Mic that comes with the Cobra is Junk...I would suggest getting a good noise canceling Mic for it if it's going in trucks. In my Suburban since I really don't need a noise canceling Mic, I use a RF Limited Extreme 2018 power Mic, and get good results.

Both the Cobra and the Uniden have SWR check...the fetchers on both radios are about the same...If you get on Youtube and do a search for the two radios, there are some videos on both radios that show you everything they do...CB magazine and CB repairman have several good videos on the radios.

The built in SWR calibrations are known to not be that accurate. You're better off having an external SWR meter on hand.

Why not something lie a Icom 706 or Yaesu FT100-D? Both will blow awya any Cb radio built and you should be able to pick up a nice used one of either model for under $500.00. I would assume they would cover just about any frequency you could ever want and are easily modded for use on 11 meters. I dont know if you want to spend that much on radio but i thought i would throw that idea out there just in case.

    DIRTROAD Thanks this.

I did forget one thing. For those to work on AM you need to get one with or have an AM filter installed (for use on 11 meters) or they sound horrible. Be honest with you,i really dont know how much those filters are.

you will need a ham radio opened up to do what you want.
the icom 706 covers all ranges desires and has 2 antenna out puts which you will need to use. cb and 2 meter will requier their own antenna.
