Just going by experience when I had my company.
I had hired on a driver with a good record. Agent gave his blessing after I faxed over the H6 and app.
Five weeks after hiring him, insurance company sent me a letter declining to insure him due to "...undisclosed information obtained subsequent to hiring."
The next couple drivers I hired, I tried to have them OK'd in advance and my agent told me, "...easier to stuff soft butter up a wildcat's ##### with a hot poker than get an advance approval."

    Maybe things have changed.
    Maybe not.

yep, you did everything in the employees favor which is great. it's ashame that there are suits sitting around in some insurance office, looking at a request to add on a companys policy coverage { Suit A says to Suit B, Gee perfect record driving ten years, and look no type of arrests for anything in the last seven years,, - Suit B, " oop, oop, look what we have here, possession of less than a joint nine years ago, better send this one to underwriting..} ,, 3 weeks go bye, { The other suit in underwriting starts to review the paperwork..., you know the type, The True Rubber Stamper --- Bang - DENIED..

it's a fkn shame is all i am saying..

    This is just an opinion:

I cannot speak this specific case, but often perspective drivers do not tell the complete truth about their medical or criminal history and think it will be a non-issue, and when it comes back to haunt them it’s the big bad trucking company or the big bad insurance company. These rules keep us all safe and help reduce some of the enormous risks taken on by companies & insurance carriers with student drivers.
I went to a better school,….. but our school discussed in detail, both the health requirements and minimum background requirements, before the first day of class, and even discouged those that had issues, explaining that continuing with school would be a waste time and money for this particular student. When you sign those releases, you allow the company and any company representative (insurance carrier) to thoroughly explore your background. Sometimes students / drivers simply pose a risk because they are not completely truthful, and issues are discovered during an investigation…….often the carrier and insurance company is wondering what else has transpired, that you’re not telling them? Somestimes we are our own worst ememy.

am being honest with any potential employers, the thing about the article that bummed me out was the fact that a company actually accepted a driver with his/her background disclosed to them, and the company accepted him.., but than it goes on to say a few weeks later that the insurance company had a different opinion.. just trying to avoid being a few thousand miles away from home and doing an excellent job, but than being told to pack up driver you are heading home..
if the insurance company said no because he did not disclose something, that is all fine and good, but this article isn't exactly saying that..

when i am hired with a company there are four things that are of most importance to me. in the order listed

    1. safety
    2. my dac report
    3. efficient
    4. $$$
