Everything looks good for me in may. I am going for cdl training in WI. correct me if im wrong but after the 13 days of training you drive back home before getting set up with a trainer? the reason im asking cause i live in North Carolina and trying to figure out if i should rent a car or drive my own.

I believe they do send you home after training and then meet up with a trainer by your home. thats my understanding.

In August I contacted US Express. The recruiter was terrible with communication. The Wednesday after Labor Day I go to orientation in Chicago. 85 people in the room. At the end of the day I'm one of 35 people still left after passing all required tests. At the end of Friday they have me in a truck with a trainer. I was only 1 0f 16 out of the 35. The rest got sent home to wait for a trainer. I was out on the road for two weeks with a male trainer and logged the required time needed to get my own truck. US Express sends me straight out on the road for three weeks before I got the chance to come home. So now we are into early October. After being home for less than 72 hours I'm back out on the road. This time for almost a whole month. Good miles right? Well you would have thought so, but no. My miles and pay check were horrible. So I get home and my wife tells me to look else where. So I call Roehl. I din't think I'd make it past the initial recruitment call. However, the lady who had recruited me back in May, 2010, remembered me. She listened to my story of how I felt I was treated the first go around with Roehl. She hangs up with the promise to call me back later. Two hours later I receive a phone call from her boss and we talked at my first experience at Roehl. He tells me he'll need to do some checking and he'll get back in touch with me. The next day my recruiter calls me back and tells me every thing is a go. The FM that I had issues with was long gone and had been fired for not getting along with several drivers. So they give me another shot to come back to Roehl and I accept the opportunity to come back. I get to Marshfield and pass all the test. At the end of the week they want me to drive with a trainer for up to two weeks, then re-evaluate me to see if they want me to continue the training process or just give me my own truck. I go a week and the guy I'm with, un-knowing to me, has been on the phone for two days trying to convince his FM that I know what I'm doing and don't need the experience. So his FM talks to me and I explain that if this trainer is ok with it, I'd really would like to get the experience of one trip with someone else of delivering a load to the New York City area as well as Canada. I'm told that if that happens I may be out later than the initial two weeks. So I'm fine with it as my trainer agrees. I spend the next 10 days in New York, New Jersey, P.A., Mass., and Canada getting the training I felt was the best experience needed for the job. Now we are talking end of November/early December. Roehl gives me my truck and I can't be happier. The miles have been great, my FM this time is in Marshfield, not Gary, and all is going great. I'm so happy to be back at Roehl and thankful that Roehl gave me a second chance.

"The FM that I had issues with was long gone and had been fired for not getting along with several drivers."

I've had a couple of companies call me that I had driven for including JBHunt where my DSM said he was going to blackball me and offer me jobs. In all of the cases the DSM's were no longer with the company. If you have driven for someone and didn't have a bad experience but quit because of problems with your DSM don't be afraid to call the company back up a little while later and see if they might hire you back.

Sometimes they do but not everytime. so you need to specify that with the recruiter that you need to go home and get affairs in order after school if you need to go home afterward.

Well, as of yet I have not been home late and ran out early. I have been home as requested .
One time it was a day early and was expected to be out a day earlier than planed but when requested the extra day I was givin it. Maybe a fluke? I don't know but they have done nothing to p*#@@ me off to this point. I have had a couple slow weekends out, some not so good weeks as far as miles but many good ones. I have not been asked to do anything I don't feel good about and have had two situations I did not want to deal with for certian reasons and had no problem with my F.M. regarding them.
I do believe the 9 days orientation and 12 days were not enough for this old boy. I would have liked a couple more weeks with a trainer. I struggled with a few things and was stressed beyond my limit. I had a couple problems but none too bad, I'm still here.
I could have opened my big mouth and said I did not feel ready and usually have no problem
with my mouth but I made the choice not to..... Hind sight is 20/20.
So for my experiance with them it's been ok. Nothing to jump and holler about but nothing to ##### about either. As a newbie I'm ok with Roehl and realize I'm still as green as can be.
One thing I learned real fast was watch them short directions. I spend most of my trip planing on those. I google the shipper and consignee every trip. I pull up the satilite view and try to see the lay of the land so as to not come in blind. Call them both and verify directions.
I called County police once because after trying everything else and could not be sure about one turn. They were a great help. NO, you DO NOT want to take that exit, they were right.
Piece of cake with their help. German chocolet. I know, I'm spelling like s#@& today.
And ramblin. The two situations I had were both in the short directions. No fun at all BUT
never again if I can help it. That's my story, and I'm stickin to it.

Nightwind8830, cheflee and KF7WTV Thank this.
