Just some of the stupid things I see

It is not selfishness in the least bit. I just have ZERO sympathy for people who do not watch out for their own well-being when their inattention and failure to use common sense bites them in the rear.

Actions have consequences, and stupidity should be painful. If you want to drive around a blind corner at breakneck speeds, there is nothing I can do to prevent you from doing just that....just don't expect me to come running to your aid if/when your attempt is unsuccessful. I don't know who else might be chasing you around that corner, and I won't jeopardize my own safety to help save you from your own stupidity.

My goal is to get home safely and in one piece...and I'm not going to be able to do that if some other knucklehead turns me into a hood ornament while I'm out checking on your condition after you failed to safely negotiate a curve in the road. I'll leave the rescue work to the professionals.

 

Pretty pathetic to say the least. Makes you sad you are in the same industry with someone like that.

 

Yup. I should have stopped my truck on the snow-packed Missouri road to potentially get run over by another motorist just so I could check on the condition of the driver in the Excursion with Texas tags that had just blown my doors off a few miles before he lost it crossing an overpass. His screw-up, his problem. Same with the little silver toaster-car (I forget what they are called...) that caught up to me down in Louisiana and just couldn't wait for me in the truck traveling at the speed limit to safely complete a pass of another truck driving slightly below the speed limit and move back into the right hand lane....so as soon as he had a few inches to spare between the trucks, he cut to the right lane and gassed on it around me. 20 miles later, he was on his roof in the median.

Not my problem. In fact, I get a pretty good laugh out of these clowns...they may not have this "driving" thing down yet, but they were certainly successful in their attempts to be the first ones to the scene of the crash.

Drive like an idiot, and I'm not going to risk my neck to help you when your behavior catches up with you....just like I have no sympathy for the thief who gets shot by the store clerk. When your own stupid behavior gets you into a bad situation, it is selfish to expect anybody else to bail you out.

I'm not saying I wouldn't ever help anybody...because I have helped a good number of people out on a pretty consistent basis....but not before I survey the situation to ensure I'm not placing myself in any danger by rendering assistance, have a safe place to park my truck, and it is usually only to help people out of a situation which was caused through no fault of their own, such as mechanical breakdowns or people caught up in other people's wrecks.

If you caused the wreck, though, all I'm saying is that I'm not concerned with you or your well-being. The consequences of your own actions are yours to deal with.

After this little diatribe of yours about you disconcern with the safety of others, I am quite done with you. You are an incredible piece of ....work.

 

I have been stopped my fair share of times and as long as I slowed down and turned my flashers on while finding a safe place to pull off I've never had a officer say anything, if your that worried just call 911 and tell them why your not stopping, I am sure DB will back me up on this.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what your saying. I'm merely presenting what officers have told me... My entire family is in law enforcement, and it makes for some interesting conversation at family gatherings.

Here is what the other side argues:

If you refuse to help(which by helping is clearly against your Constitutional rights). They will charge you with impeding an investigation... or at worse flat out obstruction of justice. Could these charges stick? Perhaps not, but law enforcement uses them to threaten or coerce you into compliance.

I'm not sure how this would turn out for you in court???

On a side note: I was refering to a speeding LEO going to a place other than official duty.... not a high speed chase. (ie Seen a trooper come around me at about 70-80 MPH, this Thurs.... Seen him later up the road at a Coffee shop with Sheriff's deputy, and local police cars also there.... must have been late for doughnuts)

 

Cops are the WORST drivers on the road. I stand by that statement.
