As far as tires are concerned they establish an escrow account that is funded at a rate of 1.5 cpm from your settlements. As long as you take care of your tires, that's a major expense that doesn't take a large chunk out of you. I've replaced my steers at 180,000 miles, and the drives will be replaced sometime this spring. If they make it to March, I believe that the tire fund will cover all expenses related to that.
I had a turbocharge blow last winter - took out the diesel particulate filter as well. Required a tow to a Freightliner dealership. I paid a little over $100 for some minor parts and shop fees that weren't covered under the warranty - otherwise the costs were covered by warranty. Costs on a stuck injector and the axle seals on one of my drive axles were covered 100%. Freightliner picked up the tab on the tow - which I doubt was cheap. Most of what I've needed to cover just came out of my settlements without touching the emergency fund that I contribute to, so its been mostly painless for me. There is also breakdown pay that starts after the first full 24-hour period that you're in the shop - helps to defray your expenses and cover your fixed costs while you're down. -

IP you brought up the emergency fund. I was impressed with the interest prime pays on it. one more plus

I hate to break the flow of this thread, but I have an off topic question. I read on an older thread that Prime will not hire an individual that has been unemployed for a stretch of 5 months in the last 3 years. Anyone have good intell on this? Please don't tell me to call a recruiter. I have a recruiter, but she neither answers my questions thru email, nor calls me back. I am wondering if my time on the union bench is inpart the reason I have been kicked to the curb.
-
Get a different recruiter... You must have a good reason for that gap in employment.
-
I'm actually not unemployed. I am a Union Construction worker assigned a number on a hiring list. My Prime Recruiter would not accept the Union Hall as an employer that I have worked for for the past 11 years, she wanted a list of Union Companies and dates. Now I have an 8 month period of unemployment.
Recommendations on a Recruiter??
Thanx ORD. I have enjoyed your blog and the threads you and the other guys have posted here on the Prime side. I have gotten a lot of info here. -
Tabitha was my recruiter. Some recruiters know more than others. Another one might know the answers to your questions.
