That's what I was thinking. The problem with that story is where the vehicle was seized and towed. So it was turned over to some random tow truck driver who most likely didn't have the endorsement for it (why would he?) and taken to the tow yard. Which could be any random patch of ground, probably in a neighborhood where a load like that is never supposed to be allowed through, much less parked in and left. I could see that causing a very big problem.

this one time.. a US Marshal and a Texas Ranger helped me track down the guy that shot my pa!

wait.. that might have been a book and/or movie.

i think an over riding theme in this entire thread is your attitude plays a large part in how an officer treats you and even in some cases whether you get a ticket or not depending on the offense. i once got out of a ticket because the fast food place i worked at gave a 50% discount to all LEO, EMT, Firefighters and Military members. well that, and i wasn't a jerk when the officer came up to the window of my pickup.
also, take care of your tickets before they pile up, otherwise the next ticket is a do not pass go do not collect $200 one.

Diesel Bear does the area you work in use aircraft to check vehicle speeds? i got pulled over once in Florida after crossing a relatively long bridge, told i was speed as check by an aircraft. just wondering how common the practice is.

When I first started aircraft was used on holiday weekends. I haven't seen the aircraft being used for that for years. To much cost involved I would imagine.

In regard to the log book, you have the right not to show it to me. Go ahead and hold onto it. I'll park you for 10 hours to ensure you have adequate rest before you continue. For your inspection the violation code will be, 395.8(a). Not sure how many CSA points that is, but pretty sure an out of service violation will be high.

In regard to me weighing the truck and the driveer doesn't want to pull on the scale, they don't have to do that either. I have only seen that once. There's a ticket written for refusal to be weighed. A tow truck is called and the vehicle is dragged on the scales, and if overweight an overweight is written too. And the driver is responsible for the the tow truck bill. I haven't seen it in about 10 years happening and it happended to a guy I used to work with. I had a driver that was hauling feed corn back in 2001 that told me he wasn't pulling on. I explained to all to him, and after I explained it to him he decided to pull on. He was a owner operator and decided to pull on the scale. Yes he was overweight. However the overweight fine was no where near the refusal price or the cost of a tow truck being summoned. Funny how it all works out, in 2004 his son became a trooper and I now work with him. That driver who at first told me to pack sand is now a good friend. Been to his house numerous times. I also went hunting with him this past Saturday.

It's real easy call the company and let them know. Ask them what they want done with their truck? I have impounded trucks and trailers with loads on. Sometimes they are hazmat loads. There are countless scenarios that could play out that would require me to impound the load. And no I do not have to call the Marshall's, the FBI or anyone else. The carrier gets called and notified if it is not for evidentry purposes. I let the carrier decide majority of the time. If it's involved in a wreck and I am going to download the computer module, it gets impounded until a searh warrant is executed and we are done going over the vehicle. No different than a passnger car.

I don't know what your past experiences have been with LEO's. But just from your attitude displayed in your responses I'm sure where they have ended up. If and when we meet I guess I already know how you feel. How about you put a sticker on the side door of your truck that says "Doesn't play well with others."

I've met a few driver's like you. I will tell you point blank, act like a arse I'll treat you like a arse. I don't ask you to kiss my arse or anything like it, but if a person is decent that goes a long way in me writing a warning. I learned a long time ago not to argue with people like you. You want me to argue and escalate the scenario so you can complain or sue. I also learned a long time ago that pen in my left pocket always gets the last word.

Back on topic. Had a guy last night that was stopped at 2300 hours. However his log book was filled out until 1000 hours this morning in the sleeper berth. Then showed driving until 1350 hours on todays date. I asked the driver what was up with his log. He stated the dispatcher told him he had to go. Driver said he told them he was out of hours. Dispatch told him to run it. So he decided to show a 10 hr break, and his drive time in the future. Have seen it before, but not that elaborate.

Would have been better to throw the log book out the window and just say he "lost it!":biggrin_25511:

I got my first speeding ticket in 25 years about 3 years ago. I don't deny I was speeding, I was keeping up with the flow of traffic. When I was pulled over the officer stated I had been clocked from the air. I felt I kept a pleasant attitude, did as he asked, wasn't rude, and he never even cut me a break, only told me I need to go back to driving the way I had for the previous 25 years, and not speed.

I now keep my speed about 65-67 in a 70MPH zone. I try to avoid passing other vehicles, instead just slow down. I've pushed it a few times, but I always fear there is an aircraft in the sky clocking me and I will soon be pulled over and issued another ticket. I find it to be less expensive all around if I go a couple miles under the posted limit, that way I have a couple MPH to play with if I do feel the need to pass.

Tear some of it into little pieces before throwing the log book out of the window. Then slobber on some of the pieces. Blame the dog.
