WATKINS and SHEPARD ....FLATBEDS
I wanted to go directly into flated work...thought about Maverick but do not want to start with automatics...considered TMC but no desire to have a company demand how my hair is cut, maybe I want to grow it out after being restricted for the last 26 years...I think I can groom myself the way I want to.
Found out Watkins and Shepard has a flat bed division....APPRECIATE ANY INSIDE KNOWLEDGE ANYONE HAS ABOUT THE FLATBED DIVISION. CAN ROOKIES WORK FLATBEDS HERE?

Good idea. Also Roehl has a flatbed division.

AT doesnt pull flats for WS, he went to Lone Star.

not sure if they'd take rooks straight into f/b...but you'd be at the bottom of the list, A/T was #6..he left, another F/B left..haven't been to Missoula to see where I'm at on it, but figure I'm #4 or 5 since I was behind A/T, and not sure how many signed up for it after I did and that was 3 months ago.

MY BAD To hard to keep up with all of you

Cool, thanks all...so i uess it's not that easy to get into f/b as a company driver...seems like owning your truck is the way to go.

if you want to work for W/S just start in vans, and get your name on the list. I recomend new drivers start out in vans or reefers before going to flats.
But I also recomend GOOD flatbed training, you will not get that there OR here since both W/S and LST do a week (5 days) at the terminal training. You really need more then that..JMO

Flatbed is alot of common sense, if you dont have any...don't waste your time.
plentygood Thanks this. -
WS flatbad training is OK. They make sure you have the basics (including tarping), and they also make sure you have everything you need before you go out on the road (like dunnage and plastic etc). And you keep your own trailer.. which is nice in some ways. No DH though

WS loads are "easy" and pretty straight-forward. And you wouldn't get a difficult to secure load for awhile (like a year) so its not that big a deal. Plus Dispatch is willing to help you out with advice if you need or want it. I've called them for advice a couple times.
As far as I know there's no experience needed to apply for WS flatbed division.. they took me with only 3 months driving van. But I don't think anyone starts in flats off the bat. But it can't hurt to inquire as soon as you feel interested.HAMADOWN Thanks this.
