What kind of company allows a driver like that? Or was that his own truck? Why would a driver risk his own life driving a piece of ###### like that let along the life of a family or the life of other drivers? Just. Makes you go huh!!![]()
Just some of the stupid things I see

Yes Dieselbear is correct in this, as tow trucks have a few exemptions for doing our job, and being able to have leaway..
I do heavy duty towing and have done it strickly for the last 13 years now, (Been towing for 33 years and even have 3 years OTR)...
I have my haz mat endorsement, and I even have my HAZ MAT A & O from the state fire college here.
Troopers here and DOT officers know it and I get calls all the time to go pick up trucks from other tow companies on the side of the road when they get shut down for non - endorsed drivers.. (3 times last year alone)...
Do we have to have it, YES!!! Do all drivers have it NOPE... Do tow truck drivers tow Haz Mat vehicles without the proper endorcements YES... And they get caught and its not cheap..
Want to know another exemption we have????
We can excede our 14 hour on duty log rules, and keep driving and working.
Want to know how and why?
Its simple, we can work all day and then go home but be called back for a major truck wreck and have to work it.
What you think would happen if we were working on uprighting a tractor trailer combination and we ran out of hours...
Sorry Mr Officer, but I have to stop working and take a 10 hour break, and no I can not move my truck even though its sideways across the roadway and the truck is halfway up in the air.. DOT law says I have to stop..
Now under the exemptions we can finish the job, get the truck towed back to the yard and then we "HAVE TO TAKE OUR 10 hour break" -
He was gone so fast I was afraid he was gonna suck the whole thread out behind him!
I thought I pushed a magic button or something!Injun Thanks this. -
Not so quick. You also have to take in account your State laws. A state law can override a federal regulation and be more stingent. And what I posted is not about having a CDL, it is about having an endorsement. Thus, your a tow truck opertor. I call you after I have broke down on the interstate. I'm a tanker hauling water. I need a tank endorsement. The heavy duty operator needs a CDL but could get out of the tank endorsement due to the emergency tow from the side of the road. Now let's flip that around. I'm in a truck stop and broke down and call you to pull me to a another repair shop. At that point your need the Tank endorsement to tow me. I know the heavy duty's in my area make their operator's have the endorsement's so there is no issue that could arise.Scalemaster, ibflat2, Big Don and 3 others Thank this. -

Had the owner of a company driving one of the trucks today as well. He comes off a ramp in front of me and cranks it up. 25 over the limit, in and out of lanes passing everything in sight. Get him stopped, no license, dead tags and two out of service defects. Then he tells me he is the owner.

Company driver. Stated he told the dispatcher who told him to run it.
