I was on Craigslist searching for a company to drive, for when I came across an ad for A to Z transportation. I assumed it was a trucking company. And for the most part they are. Except they don't have a terminal or trucks, a shop, mechanics, trailers or anything that a prototypical trucking company would have. Instead what I discovered was these guys had a small office in an office park in Pennsauken NJ. There, they would dispatch loads to their drivers who, would lease a truck through either penske or Ryder. Truck payments for a 2012 freightliner cascadia are around 585.00 per week. Other deductions are: 150.00 per week security deposit for 15 weeks, 47.00 per week insurance, .07 cpm maintenance payment for the truck. There may be other miscellaneous deductions like 50.00 to pay for someone who preloaded your trailer for you to drop n hook. But you get that back when you preload some one else's trailer. How bout we all just load our own trailers! Now there's a concept. Anyway every load is designed with BJ's wholesale in mind. This is their bread n butter client. You get 1.24cpm going up to the northeast and all loads going south pay around 1.22 per mile. Basically as with most leases you are a glorified company driver. You have no say so on your business ( if you wanna call it that) they control everything. You'll be fueling against virtually every load. 1.24 cpm is with the fuel surcharge added. The analogy I used was I am a worker bee who sacrifices himself for the greater GOOD of the hive. In this case the hive being BJ's wholesale. Or lumber liquidators. Operating at a loss is considered acceptable and the cost of doing business in order to satisfy these accounts. Never mind if you make money, what is paramount is those major accounts. So if you draw a small check one week in the name of customer satisfaction then they'll try n get you back on your feet again. So you will make about 660.00 to 1100 dollars per week before uncle Sam gets his cut. About what a company driver makes. You assume all the risk and all the expense. Truck payment, maintenance payment, security deposit, weighing your truck (95% of loads are 44-45000 lbs) all tolls def and fuel.Trucks are auto shift and set at 68 MPH Max. I tried it out for 30 days to see how it was. I did make some money, but by and large I can make more as a company driver, without the headache. Good luck to any one coming here your going to need it. God Bless and be safe out there.

I read some other threads about lease trucks. That one about Anderson in St Cloud MN was horrible. But I must say, that while these lease scams may be unethical they are certainly not illegal....yet. There is nothing illegal about unscrupulous businesses associates coming together to take advantage and exploit unsuspecting and gullible truck drivers. These guys are in business to make money, and if they can do it at your expense then so be it. These predators are clandestinely and surreptitiously robbing drivers under the guise of benevolent business practice, then when you discover the scam you are summarily dismissed. People want the basic fundamental things in life...to earn a decent wage for work performed without being taken advantage of. To live life. Eat good. And have money. This is the basic rudimentary goal in life...to life your life as well as possible. But there are people out there who also want that...and are willing to get it at your expense. Boys n girls please be careful out there. I can't stress this enough to you..be careful

This is why I stay away from job postings from craigslist, think about it for a minute, companies who can't pay a fee to like monster.com or careerbuilder.com are more likely companies who are going rip drivers off or its all a scam.I don't even reply to free ads forget job postings, also any so called company who don't even own trucks(unless its a all O/O) that would be my first hint that its not a great company. If you want to be a O/O your best chance is to buy not lease a truck. With 18 years of exp you should have know better.

Spending 30,000.00 on a used tractor and leaseing it on to landstar or buying a trailer and getting my own authority of course would've been my first option. Ya know uh had I had enough money to do that. Now as I stated in my original post. The ad in Craigslist omitted information about A to Z being a lease company. So when I arrived I decided to go ahead and give them a try anyway. Craigslist monster.com bubbajunk.com are not exempt from fraudulent information son. Any web site offering ads for free or whether the ads are paid for are only as good as the information the person placing the ad. You of course probably should have ascertained that, being as how your so incredibly intelligent .

You know it never ceases to amaze me how drivers will leave little snotty snide sarcastic remarks on your posting. Of course this is probably designed to belittle or chastise the person who posted the ad. Oh I'm so smart and your not. This is totally characteristic of narcissistic personality disorder. Dr Kahn on YouTube describes this disorder in-depth. Along with histrionic personality disorder. INFORMATION is INFORMATION regardless of where it is obtained. The goal is to get the information not discriminate where it comes from. Truckers who display a sense of grandiose self worth and devalue what your about are typically called holier than thou type. Or troll. And should be banned from this website.

Veteran Driver : How do you figure you assume the debt of a vehicle when you lease from Penske. If you break down Penske pays.If you need a tow Penske pays. If you need a oil change Penske pays. You also get to have the tax advantage of doing a Business Lease . My friend leases with Penske when he drops the truck off they give him a car to drive around town if he wants . He Dropped his truck at Penske to get work done took the car that they gave him and went home for 2days. Penske Ryder to me is the way to go if you want to lease. OH he pays 5cents a mile bumper to bumper maint. I dont know to me its a no brainer.
