There's a reason it's called a convenience store and not a discount store.
I dealt with people when I hauled for a convenience store chain, people would come in and complain about the price and I'd tell them, "Go to a grocery and get out and WALK 100 ft to the store instead of 10 ft, it's cheaper." -
You'd figure if they were going to bend you over, they'd at least give you a discount on the lube.
kwray Thanks this. -
#### i pay $11
-
yall think that is outrage the lucas fuel boost is now 15.99 at pilot/j's. it used to 11.99 a few years ago.
i know i can get it from wally's for 5bucks less. but oh well. it really sucks that they think we are sucker enuf to keep buying stuff for outrageous prices. -
I would have made my statement and walked out the door after it rang up without paying anything. $25 is 12$ too much and that is 3-4 days of meals on the road. Every penny counts!

Well, I needed a gallon of oil. I don't care to run my truck when it gets down to the bottom mark. I am due for an oil change here in a couple of days, I could have run it, but that's not how I treat my engine. $25 isn't a lot of money in the overall scheme of things. I typically carry extra oil in the sidebox but this one time for whatever reason I didn't, it happens. I also understand the concept of convience stores. But come on that is at least $5 more than most every other truck stop out here. Hood's really done themselves more harm than good in that situation. If I had paid $20 for that gallon I would have written it off as the normal truck stop convienence raping and never given it a second thought. Not only did I get that jug of oil but I also put 130 gallons of their fuel in my tanks. I don't travel that stretch of interstate weekly but I do on occasion get through there. Convienience is one thing, gouging is another. I choose to vote with my wallet. I will never again stop at Hood's truck stop.

You don't really think this truckstop get's the same pricing as a TA,Pilot or Walmart, do you. I'm going to guess they probably have 10% of the volume in fuel sales as well. Yet, they abide by the same regulations and pay the same property taxes and other government fees as a TA or Pilot. Obviously their costs are higher, necessitating higher retail pricing. Since fuel is so competitive, they can't do a whole lot there, so they make it up inside.
You don't know their margin, or even if they are breaking even most of the time.
The big truck stops make their margin on the inside as well, as most fuel is sold less than a nickle above cost thanks to cost plus programs. However, if we go on the 10% theory above, they have 10 times more inside sales to hit similar overhead and profit levels. Even if you use a 50% figure that is still double the customers. -
Lol "stealership"
I like that. I used to work at a car dealership before and all the times someone screamed that we were crooks and such I never heard someone say Stealership.
Made my afternoon -
Shoot I want to buy from where you are. My area i'm lucky to find a regular sized candy bar for a buck.
I have a little store next to my house that sells stuff at a 30% markup from the grocery store. I hear people all the time complaining about the price. I don't have a problem chiming up, " you're paying for the convenience factor".
BUTTTT! more than 100% markup or darn close is pretty dang steap to be paying.
