The objective of this forum is to warn drivers of predatory companies. Not to laugh at the folly of misinformed or gullible drivers. The " ah ha you idiot you screwed up" mentality is counterproductive to what truckersreport.com is trying to promote. Everyone makes mistakes regardless of how many years of experience you have. The notion that me having 18 years experience makes me exempt from making mistakes is absurd. I hope everyone has the courage to come forth and express themselves on this forum without having to worry about other truckers laughing at your post.

There no way you can compare a penske lease to a company lease. I dont see it.

Didn't sound like you were bottom up on the lease and at least were making a living comparable to a company driver. I'm not sure how you were worse off? The only quibble I have with that is that the loads were forced dispatch and you didn't own the truck after the lease was over but if the truck was a pure lease wouldn't the lease payment be 100% deductable every year off of your taxes?

why does it make any difference when you fuel? Won't it come out sooner or later on a load no matter when you do it and average out in the end?

I found a dedicated job with Schneider National on Craigslist. It was a good job too. Some companies use outside recruiters and that is what SNI did in that case.
With Craigslist on the initial screen is a big warning about spammers and scammers before you go to the next screen. You have to be very careful with every site advertising for drivers and do your homework before signing on. This goes double for any lease/purchase job

Well said, however, this is called being an adult responsible for your own welfare. If you or any driver signs a lease without taking the time to understand it or have someone who can explain it to you then the fault is no-one but your own. The alternative is to have the government take care of you in every aspect to protect you from yourself.

Really? Can you link to the story? ugh....

I've always wondered why more drivers who were thinking of buying a truck did not take this route first to see if they liked it or not. Seems to me to be a good wahy to get your feet wet.

Unbelievable. The notion that someone who fails to read the fine print or investigate a lease is somehow responsible for their demise is disturbing. " soooooo you bafoon you. You have failed to read the contract tsk tsk tsk shame on you, you deserve to be taken advantage of" this mentality of the driver deserving what he gets because he was stupid or irresponsible is the kind of climate we see in the trucking industry today. A truck driver would rather laugh and say " I told you so" then shake his head in dismay at the folly of an ignorant driver. Unethical behavior in the work place should never be tolerated. Unscrupulous business practices are not uncommon and can fool lots of people into signing to the dotted line. The goal is to try and collectively eliminate bad business practice or get laws passed to prevent this from happening again. I am greatful that this lease didn't do me any harm, I suspected it was like most leases, so I bailed when I saw the scam. But there are lots of folks out there who can't bail quickly enough. They're stuck. I am in the process of starting a lobby to get a bill passed to out law one sided business practice. All information should be transparent. Nothing that would make a person decide not to sign a lease should be withheld.

You forget we live in a time where we are all entitled to something.
When we fail after signing a contract its because we were scammed

Most lease/purchase deals are indeed scams, but the mistake so many drivers make is that they forget they are no longer a driver. They are now a small business owner. Starting a business is a long term project and the first year is usually the hardest. If you are looking short term and looking for a weekly paycheck you need to stay as an employee driver. As long as you have a truck payment of any sort you will be lucky to make what a company driver makes. The payoff comes when the truck is paid off.

If the numbers don't add up, don't start the business. If your business plan won't support the payments of a new truck you're going to have to find a different truck or financing plan. If your fuel is costing too much you need to find a way to get better fuel economy. Whether it's the banks, homeowners who bought houses they couldn't afford, or drivers who start their own trucking businesses without knowing their numbers the formula for failure is always the same. When your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep becomes your downfall.

They are sub leasing from penske. @ Preacherman. Fuel economy should never be the sole determining factor when it comes to enjoying a decent bottom line. First of all no o/o in his right mind would never get out of bed for.085cpm with. 032cpm fuel surcharge. That's insane. Your already fighting a losing battle. BJ's wholesale pays those guys 2.85cpm of that. 085 cpm goes to the driver with the surcharge. When fuel goes up surcharge stays the same. My beef is this....level the playing field some how bout that! There's enough cake to go around for everybody. Why be greedy share the well. We're not asking for all the profit, just a better rate. And the ability to control our destiny. To turn down loads. To pick those loads that are most conducive to our business, you must understand that at the end of the day, ultimately the final business decision rest with me, not some Guy in pennsauken NJ.
