If you want to lease to a carrier, whether it is CRST Malone or another carrier, I would rely on them to get my loads, at least initially. They do have agents all over the country and it is their job to find freight and keep owner operators rolling. If you want to test the waters before actually buying a truck, Malone will help owner operators or fleet operators to find drivers and for drivers to find owner operators for whom they can drive.

Most loadboards will require that you have your own authority and insurance in order to subscribe. Some will allow you to subscribe as long as you have permission from your carrier. I have a friend who does this who is leased to Universal Am Can. He still mostly runs their loads and is doing very well. If you talk to enough brokers you will learn how to negotiate rates. You will still need to get the permission of Malone to haul the load and they will need to check the broker's credit. They won't allow you to haul a load for any broker who doesn't have good credit. Brokered loads must be run through one of their agents or the corporate office. That will be true with most any carrier with whom you lease.

Whether you make more than as a company driver for Swift will be up to you and your ability to run a business. There are those who fail in this business every day. But, the opportunity is there for those who want to apply themselves.

I live in S.C.,so on several occasions I have taken loads to the North East if the rate is good. I am also not shy on these loads to tell the agent I want $200 extra on the load for tolls, sometimes the customer agrees and sometimes not, if they agree I take the load if not, someone else can pay the tolls out of pocket. Another example, I was puling a covered wagon at the time and got empty in Little Rock, and agent called and said he really needed a covered wagon for a load that loaded the next day in Memphis. He wanted to know would I be willing to sit until the next day for the load. I said if the customer is willing to pay me $350 in layover I will. He called the customer and got it approved. My point is......it never hurts to ask. the worse the can say is no.

Call a recruiter and ask, they may oy may not send you a copy of the contract, as far as dedeuctions they shouldn't have a problem sending that to you.

Being based out of Little Rock wouldn't be bad, one of our best agents is out of Blytheville, get in good with them and he will take care of you. One of the best agents out of that office is Taylor, he always calls me with load offers when he sees I will be in one of his freight areas.
If you work with agents on a regular basis, some will rememeber you and take care of you, and to others your just another truck. Pick up and deliver your loads on time, claim free, and if you run into a delay make them aware of it. Real simple, right? Well belieave me schmucks screw it up all the time.

Landlord, I got approved and will be going soon to Birmingham. I spoke with them about the sign on bonus, and this is what my recruiter told me.

It is $1,000.00, they put $500.00 on your comdata card when you get assigned your first load, then 60 days later they will give you the other $500.00. He said to be sure and call and remind him on the 60 day point as he may forget.

This is if you are coming in O/O.
