I 've used a hammer on several occasions to bend the tab on the trailer gladhand so it will grip tight enough.

That was my first thought, but you have to remembere, that's the kind of people the big companies are hiring now. Hand them something with buttons (computer, phone, gamepad, etc) and they're fine. Hand them a nut and bolt and they're completely lost.
