Are you for real??!!! He has EVERY RIGHT to complain. He;s stuck with an uneducated redneck who is NOT teaching him what he needs to know.
No one has to put up with a redneck who is being disrespectful GM. There is NO EXCUSE nor justification for that.Gold_Miner, Jimmeyjack and Peedlezong Thank this. -

I did, many times at a different company. Typical MO was one really good one and then three crappy ones. I'm not there any more. Last year at this time, freight was skinny and I was doing more sitting than running. If I hadn't put money aside, I would not have been able to make my truck expenses. I posted a thread about it, called "Freight Crunch" and outlined how I got through the thin times.
These times happen predictably at the same time every year. I never advise people to start a trucking career in January. It's the worst possible time. Even the dedicated accounts are running thin right now.
I am not special with regard to freight. As far as the computer knows, I am just another truck number. I could, but I don't, call in favors. I don't think it's fair, even though I'm a lease op, to jump the line for freight. I believe the field should be level within a company. If a solo company truck empties before me, it should get the next load offering before me.
The difference is, I planned ahead so that when I came back from a week off, I was able to bounce back from a negative $455 settlement in one week and clear $900 on that same settlement. Company drivers can do the same thing. They have to approach it from a personal finance direction. Keep a certain amount of money in a separate account and don't let your wife have access to it.
This won't work for someone who is brand new. Obviously. And that's why I generally encourage them to wait until February to start.Last edited: Jan 23, 2012

You do what you gotta do GM. Im right there with ya. I can tell you now...getting improperly trained or having your comprehension and morale comprimised during such a crucial 240training hours is not worth it. Do what you must to be a proficient driver w a POSITIVE attitude.
Injun and Gold_Miner Thank this. -
as someone in the process of joining the company have either of you, GM or peddle, tried this route? if not is there a reason why you haven't (like intimidation)?Injun Thanks this. -
How much to time do you have left with your trainer?

I'll be done in 11 days, whoo! It's good fun but some of the other drivers are a bit "out there" nice ppl just a lil talkative, whereas I want them to go away as I wanna get on with driving. Been planning what I'm gonna be buying for my truck so I have some creature comforts, hardest part is planning the tv as I don't know which truck I'll get (although I want the Volvo, as it increases your chances of getting the dedicated run I want) do can't buy ahead of time. Hang in their though guys, cause this job is alot of fun, just driving along singing along to tunes, good times and seeing this great country, what more could you want

Basically I will finish with this guy because it may be worse with someone else. Out of 7 students in my class, 2 quit after one week with mentor, 4 are complaining about their mentors attitudes and demeanor and 1 has mentor that is doing there job.
My mentor is doing great now, he goes back to the sleeper and sleeps. He leaves me alone. I drove 10.5 hours yesterday in hard rain, wind, snow, bad rush hour traffic. I did a blindside back into a very tight spot and a night back in another tight spot during this time. My mentor did a great job, he stayed in the sleeper and left me alone. GOOD JOB MENTOR...
So everything is better now, I guess he will allow me to get a shower once I get my 240 hours. Then I will go solo and get a shower daily. I will not have to clean up his mess or put his things away. I will not have to show him how to fill out a paper log any more and I won't have to listen to him argue with his wife on the phone 5 times a day. Life is better and getting better everyday I get closer to getting done with this stupid mentor thing.scottied67 and inkeper Thank this.
