I don't care how you do it; just get it done!! I've seen drop n hook Walmart trailers accumulate 3-4 inches of ice plus the snow on top of that. Light, fluffy snow from sitting overnight is not what this law is aimed at. When I was a kid hauling chips (20+ yrs ago) we always shovelled the van roofs off before leaving a sawmill; it was common sense then as it is now......if a trailer has sat for a few days with snow on it it needs to be removed. The heating/cooling cycles (even in cold weather) build ice fast.

But isnt climbing on top of the trailer with out a safety harness against OSHA regulations? 14 foot is a long way down and a major lawsuit for a company if a driver gets hurt so how do we solve this?

Yes, if you are over 6 ft up you need a harness or guardrail. I guess trailers better come equipped with a 36" guardrail around the top perimeter. Look out for new regs next year.

I think the OSHA law is 4 ft, not that it really matters.

That's why steel mills make flatbedders put guards in their stake pockets when securing their load.

6ft is the maximum fall that you can be subject to. Just bought a new harness and lanyard a few weeks ago for a mine job and didn't want to PO OSHA/MSHA

:biggrin_2559: Sounds like our gooberment. "We raised every bridge in the U.S by 36" to accomadate the new trailer handrail regs at a cost of one billion quadrillion dollars!"

"Oh, wait...We coulda made the rails collapsable. Crap!!!!"

To show I'm a man who can admit when I'm wrong, I went to the OSHA website.

    You were correct KW.
