What would polling have to do with anything? Even if they were lazy they wouldn't say it when asked.

Look at something like the rules of the fuel island post. Did you see anyone in there say they're the guy who takes showers parked in the fuel island or do whatever they do that blocks up the fuel island for an hour? No. I guarantee there are people on this forum that have done it.

So this thread isn't proof of anything. I'm not trying to say drivers that nose in are lazy either, just that a thread on the internet doesn't prove either side.

I have to laugh at the trailer sticking out part. The only spots where this is a problem is on the perimeter where one can put their tandems (if they aren't all the way back) against the curb, thus shortening the amount of space taken up. Otherwise, a trucks length is the same whether they nose in or back in.

It doesnt bug me at all. I posted this as it came up in another thread and I had commented on how I didnt understand why people would park that way. When I was driving truck in the USA I was very new to driving and wondered why people nosed in instead of backing in. It doesnt matter to me either way, park however you want. I thought it might make an interesting thread is all .

Top reasons why I nose into a parking spot
    1. to avoid noisy reefers.
    2. to avoid the exhaust fumes from apu trucks idling beside my cab.
    3. to avoid exhaust fumes from trucks with grass burners.
    4. to make it more difficult for other drivers to steal my fuel.
    5. to avoid being bothered by pan handlers and prostitutes.
    6. to shield my truck from inexperienced drivers trying to back in beside me.
    7. for privacy.

And for the fools that think nosed in drivers are too lazy or inexperienced you just made an A S S out of yourselves for ASSuming.

As Ron White likes to say; "the next time you have a thought.... LET IT GO."

Professionalism isn't shown at the truck stop. It is shown at places like the Safeway DC where an UNprofessional Swifty has to weave her way through the dairy tanks only to find the door she's supposed to back into has local milk tankers parked across from it. The most professional of whom is parked in the driveway, next to the scale and exactly where she needs to go to back into the door. But, this UNprofessional Swifty, being the idiot she is, after 20 minutes of back and forth, avoiding yellow posts, three other milk tankers plus the one blocking the driveway behind her, manages to wiggle her way between two of the other tankers, where she is now set up for a blind side off set and backs in anyway. She's so UNprofessional, the trailer is perfectly straight in the door. And the PROFESSIONAL local tanker driver who parked right in the maneuvering area? Is the last one to leave. After she's backed into the dock.

But she's unprofessional. Because she noses into parking spots at the truck stop.

    Disclaimer:
This post is made not because its author has taken anything personally, but rather, to illustrate the ridiculousness of some people's opinion of what makes a "professional" driver.

I've been around trucks all my life (47 years now) and have yet to this day see a driver block a fuel island to take a shower. I've also yet to see 60% of the trucker tales I've heard, including the one's that sound more like a letter to Penthouse. I have pulled thru a fuel island with no intention of fueling, parked in front of it, went inside to use the bathroom, and came back out to my truck inside of 10 minutes. I can't think of any time (that doesn't mean there wasn't one, but I can't think of one) that I actually held someone up by doing this. I can however think of several times when I was held up by someone taking 20-30 minutes to get accomplished whatever it was they parked there for.

The guy who said "99% of them are lazy" was in fact exaggerating. My gramma musta told me a million times to stop exaggerating.

Is it lazy to pull in because a driver is so exhausted he/she knows that backing in is creating too much risk to their PROFESSIONAL safety record? I've done it hundreds of times in the wee hours of the morning and when I got up to roll again the lot was virtually empty making backing out of the spot as easy as driving down the big road with the cruise on.

That was my reason for nosing in 90% of the time. Out of the remaining 10% of the times I nosed in, there might have been a couple times that laziness played a factor. However, since I wasn't holding up a fuel island, and I didn't hit anyone, and (because I always pulled a 48' spread) my trailer didn't stick out into the aisles anymore than if I'd backed in, I don't see why you or anyone else should give two ##### why I was nosed in.

I think that last comment pretty much sums it up, and no one really does (or should) care how anyone else parks. It certainly doesn't affect me how someone else wants to park. As far as exaggerating about 99% of those that do it, do it out of laziness, you're right, that was an exaggeration. Those that do it, for whatever valid reason (and there are plenty) aren't the ones that seem offended here today. I would venture a guess that the drivers who really got their feathers ruffled by my exaggeration, probably really are the lazy ones! Haha, oops, I probably started another rant with that last sentence. I'll try my best to stop responding before those with their panties in a was pop a gasket!
