Using the "Question/Answer" "fact list"...common questions...it seems the driver does get "tracked"...but the tool is supposed to be used "in association with" a carrier inspection/audit. But it also says, that "currently" the driver will not be personally notified unless an egregious history or violation has occurred. And then it goes on to say just the opposite!

    Ain't that just typical!!!

Still being tracked is not being assigned "driver points". Your violations or the lack their of will follow you for 3 years, nothing new there. Its become easier for a carrier to look up a drivers past and can tell before there hired if there going to be a problem child.
Fact remains theres no such thing as "driver points".

Here is one "problem child" with some "driver points"......that seem to be ignored on a regular basis! But my "points" aren't from violations...just about being violated by dumazz planners and dispatchers!:biggrin_25521:

Wonder how I slipped through the cracks????????:biggrin_25522:

You should really go through the methodology and then you will see where the points are. Each code is marked driver responsible yes/no.(the carrier is responsible on all) I don't know how many drivers you have but i have a max # points for my insurance to hire.
The last compliance review audit i had was in nov 2010,the auditor did look at the pulled drivers records, added up the scores(which we already had)and made some suggestions on one driver before it became a real problem.

Still there is NO OFFICIAL FMCSA place to assign driver points. If you and your insurance carrier want to do that its your choice. I would find it a waste of time when you would only have to look at a drivers PSP as to what a driver has been wrote up for. When your adding up the points, your only adding up the points that your driver gave to the carrier score.
No matter if the driver is responsible or not the carrier gets the points, the driver gets it put on there drivers record.

There we are. My fault,i do not articulate thoughts well. The VSM is there for use now. The key word for FMCSA is "not at this time". Since the inception there were those who thought of it as points on their license,FMCSA would suspend license, ect.
As for a carrier using the points, it is a more accurate way to score than just the number of violations. X is verbal warning,Y is written,Z is termination.
