nice thread and vids man... makes me want to consider OTR again for my first gig rather than work around the oil fields here. Are you still happy with Knight (I stopped reading about 30 pages ago heh)? Did the "3-month honeymoon period" end like that one guy said it would?

also, it's cool to see another guy in the trucking business who is "like me" (young, skinny, not a dumb redneck lol... NO OFFENSE TO ANY REDNECKS OUT THERE, you are all charming wonderful people in your own way lol). to be honest i kind of worry about "not fitting in" with anyone on the road, even though I'm an easy going laid back kind of guy. I just can't really stomach mindless ignorant racism etc whatever i'm rambling nice thread and congrats on getting started successfully!

I felt that way when I started OTR back in 1990. I was even accused of being a yankee college boy over the CB 'cause I talked to fast, lol.
As for Knight, I called today to see what the diff between van and reefer would be. The lady in Hutchins told me 10days out for van but 2-3 weeks for reefer. I told her the 10 days sounded good, but I still had a fondness for temp control trucking after 10 yrs otr reefer exp, even though although the only exp they count is my 6mo current exp. The bad news was that they will not allow my wife to go until 30 days. Unless I do that on the DL, that's a deal killer. I promised her that if I ever went back to OTR, she would be going too...

Yeah... the beginning was awesome and the greatness tapered off. In defense of Knight... too many people have changed hats in the office in Phoenix. Every time I get a new dispatcher, all of my complaints are solved. It just seems like chaos and confusion. MANY other drivers at different terminals are totally happy with Knight. I'm not a job hopper, so I'm staying with Knight at least until my first year is up (first week of June) or until I land a better opportunity.

Things have improved drastically this week... I've been getting ALL of my pay, not just some of it. It's nice to just get paid and not have to call my DM or payroll every three days.

I just need to be more patient. I've always been the type to get things done and I hate monkey wrenches in the gears. I guess I'm easily disturbed when the motion of life is unbalanced.

I've had some rough weeks, but things are shaping up. I've been rolling constantly since the beginning of the month. I'm finally starting to save money in the bank for once.

30 days goes by SO fast! You should just do it and then take the wife. I don't think you can take anyone as a company driver right away. Knight makes you fill out a passenger form. You can only take immediate family and if you take a spouse, you have to show a marriage certificate.... LAME!

Don't even think about sneaking someone on board. If you get sent to certain parts of the US, the border patrol and the check points in some places will demand access to your bunk area to make sure you don't have passengers. You get caught with one, they call Knight, you get terminated.

I think it's stupid as hell that I can't take my girlfriend with me. We've been together for two years and she wants to go really bad, but we don't want to get married... at least not yet.

I just can't get my head around the marriage rule... it's not like I'm taking random people in my cab... plus it's all the same if you pay for insurance...

You don't have to worry about "fitting in" because you're alone. Unless you're one of those people who would just sit and ramble to any person you come into contact with because you're in such a dire need for a conversation, then you're right.....you wont fit in.

If just have to consider the knight, go reefer. That 10 days bs the dry side says is a load of crap. They only had loads going opposite way when it was time to go home. No matter where u were. I guess it could have really been that way, but hate to think with 3000 trks it would be do hard to get a load at least in the direction u need to go to aventually get home. Really short loads, the whole time I worked on dry side think I had probaly 10 loads over 1000miles. The reefer division is smaller and a little less b.s. don't get me wrong the reefer div. is still a turd, just a shined up one,vs no shined of dry. P.s. the recruiter lady in Hutchins is kind of sexy in a way, but think she may be a beech. Not sure tho. Good luck. I snuck my girlfriend with me the whole time I worked there. Took her in every terminal, but my own. Other terminal don't know who the heII you are. They don't know if you have consent or not. I took her in the offices with me to talk to whoever I neede to and the never said a word. Don't hide her in back for border patrol or scales. If she is sitting in seat they won't ask you any questions. I got dot'd a cpl times while she was with me and they never even asked for her I'd. Or consent form. U make it out of tx smaggs?

And also there is all types of people trucking. The homeless looking and the rednecks just pop out more.

On a side note, having a bad day and just decided to point out why I think our industry is treated like scum(a lot of drivers are)
Not the place for it, but I had already typed all the above and why the hell not post it wherever I want it.

1). Take a bath you nasty bastardds.
2). Raise the seat to take a leak. ( your momma didn't teach u better)
3). How do you sheet all over the toilet?
4). You are not gods gift to woman(why r u hitting on 18yr old waitress.
5). Let me sheet in piece.( I don't want to hear it.
    6). If u ain't fueling why r u sitting in fuel island?
    7). Ash your hands after potty breaks(restrooms r filthy,why wouldn't u
8). Why are u in left lane at 60mph?
9). Why r u on your laptop looking at porn in public?
    10) stop being a deeck to customers, they treat us like sheet thanks to u
    11) stop speeding up and slowing down. Set dam cruise
    12) when I am passing u and u speed up and pin me out there I get closer daily to just ramming you.
    13) why do you think you know everything?
    14) when you write on stall walls be smart enough for correct spelling(really?)
    15) manners? Use em!!
    16) is there really that many homo truckers( every stall has some solicitation written on wall )

    Bad day and bored.
These are just some of my peeves.

Sorry for the thread hi-jacking, but..

This one is my all time worst peeve that tends to be really popular on any stretch of highway I'm on:

I can see a driver in my left side mirror. Waaaaaaaaaay back there... I'm on cruise at 65 (governed) and driver is gradually catching up over 2 to 3 miles. After finally catching up, driver signals, moves to the hammer lane and starts to pass me. Then hardly a truck length ahead me, driver signals and moves back over in front of me while slowing to 63 and I have to tap out of cruise as to not contact his DOT bumper. 5 seconds later driver continues traveling at previous course and speed pulling away from me.

    Seriously?? ...WTF is that??!!! :biggrin_25510:

It's the mememememeeeeeeee attitude. That driver was in a big hurry to cut you off. Probably governed 2mph faster, but couldn't fully handle the pass.

I never move back over until I leave generous clearance for the granny lane truck. If there's a four wheeler riding my behind, I'm more patient. Probably going to cut bothog us off as I try to get over again. I have no respect for cars. I try never to cut one off, but those 4 wheelers don't try to pass until they see my signal to pass, then they block me.

Got to spend more time on the landline with the reefer recruiter this morning and he said I'd get an exception for the wife to go day one. Even said I'd have my own room at the hotel so I can bring her and not pay extra. We will see, I'm not banking on anything just yet. Have to park the truck at the Tulsa yard. Not too bad. We are an hour & a quarter away.

Hey Smaggs, I missed the part about you playing bass. What do you take on the road with you? I'm a Strat guy and am going to buy a new Fender 2-watt tube amp they just premiered at NAMM. Should be perfect for the truck.
