It's not as much time as you are thinking it is.

Park the truck, eat a meal and go to sleep. In theory, that's 10 hours of it.

Then you get 24 hours off, of which they expect that you will sleep at the end of it.

What it really does is give you a day off, while keeping your start time at the same time of day as if you just took a 10. It's meant to give you a day off, while keeping your body clock on the same schedule.

I'm lucky that I get to take my 34 at home, with only a few exceptions. When I do have to do it on the road, I find that if I eat a couple good meals, do some laundry, clean my truck, and watch a couple movies on my laptop, the day is over before I am ready for it to be. If I need more to do, I can always drop the trailer and bobtail to wherever I need to go.

10 hours? Eat, sleep, finish paper work

    And it is not 36, it's 34!

You are only barred from driving the vehicle commercially is my understanding and something about being responsible for cargo I think. So if a company allowed it or if you owned your own truck you could do this technically right? Again I could be wrong. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Also I have a question. You only have to take the 34 if you have reached 70 hours in eight days correct?

Im only on my 6th day out, I had 20 hours left on my 70. I'm taking a restart cuz I picked up yesterday, and I don't deliver until tomorrow. So ill take a 34 now and reset my hours that way I can get a load after I drop this off and not worry about my hours. I love it

Bobtail is up to your company, but I'd have to guess most would allow it. Trick is that you must be "unladen", which is easily done by dropping the trailer.

You can currently take a 34 anytime. If I remember correctly, once the new rules start next year, you will only be able to take a 34 once a week,

On a 10 hour break I treat it like I'm at home after a days work. Get a shower, eat, lay in the sleeper and watch a movie then it's off to sleep. 34 hour resets I clean the inside of my truck, maybe polish the aluminum, I carry a hand grease gun and use it when i have a chance, just take the time to look over the truck really good. Other than that I do laundry, tell lies with other drivers, and watch the clock.

If you go into Canada they require a 36 hour reset and they go back 2 weeks on your logs

Canada also requires that you take at least 24 hrs off every 14 days, no exceptions.
