Can anyone Recommend me a good Truck GPS? I've had good experiences with Garmin in Cars, so I'm thinking about getting one from them.

Do NOT buy a Rand Mcnally. Mine was such a POS I sent it back to the factory demanding a refund. They never replied and I really don't care. they are welcome to keep it forever, I'll just write the $$ off and be happy with my old Garmin which does a much better job even though it's not truck specific.

Threads below for more details & other opinions.

when you get a GPS make sure it has the TRUCKERS APP in it otherwise if it routes you on to a parkway or BLVD or worse yet a low bridge cause its set to automobiles life will be unpleasent real quick...Reality----(and im not being an #####) buy a truckers atlas...it has all you need to find where your going and bridge laws and low bridges and so forth..do you honestly need a GPS to get where your going

That's very true. When using a GPS you should use it as 'a helpful tool of our profession' not 'IT'S MY BRAIN. I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING WITHOUT IT!!!!! AHHHHHHHH'

    Catch my drift?

    Jensen VM9414 (search ebay)

Put that unit into a T2000 a few days ago and so far it seems good. Fit right into the KW stereo slot, total install time was about 1 hour which mostly was crimping the OEM wiring to the new jensen harness.

It has accurate GPS nav with quick acquisition. Plus the unit is flip out 7" touch screen, only 1 DIN (fits in a single stereo slot) and does a ton of stuff. Blind spot camera, USB ports, SDCARD, iPOD, DVD movies, trip planning and reports, current vehicle speed and other telemetry, voice guidance with automatic radio mute, bluetooth ready, a lot more. The sdcard slot in front is AWESOME. I have a whole year of coast to coast with george noory on one sdcard, and this unit lets me browse via the 7" touch screen and select the folders and files to play.

The medialink adapter is sweet, too. Plug in a USB drive full of music and never load a CD again.

I got mine from ebay and it came with a weatherproof night vision blind-spot camera for a total of $399, but they sold out quick.

You can route plan with this, then verify the route against your current motor carrier atlas. It doesn't have a specific truck overlay, but the nav system allows you to adjust some parameters that are truck friendly.

I have the Rand- McNally TND 510 model. Does enough for me, has a 5" screen. I can switch from "car mode" to "truck mode".

It DOES get annoying when the guy's voice (or gal's voice) constantly tells me to "turn here or there" several times, before I get to the turn. There are times, I'd like to throw it out the window, but at $300, I won't. lol.

I think the "newer" Rand McNally's are better than the older ones, which I too have read of a whole lot of problems.

I bought mine from Amazon, and tell you what, I saved a few dollars buying from Amazon, rather than another online retailer.

If you're cheap like me, you can go to lowclearances.com and for 15 bucks down load most of the low overpasses. An alert will come on your gps to warn you there is a low over pass ahead and you can also choose what height and what distance away the alert will come on.

I use a Garmin Dezl 560LMT. I've been very happy with its performance in the truck. Worth every penny I spent on it.
