The best thing about local jobs is the 'commradity' that you develope with your co-workers, that's so desperatly missing from OTR....

The commradity, is simply not in OTR anymore...

We are social creatures, and need a certain level of daily interaction to help boost moral and spirit...(accept a few, but those few are abnormal)

Being alone and in isolation for weeks at a time can have odd effects on ones perspective of themself, and the world around them...

Being around others daily helps in many ways...

Relationships are an important part of the human experience...don't care how tough as leather one is...everyone needs a relationship...

Relationships keep you 'calibrated'...helps you to compare your thoughts, emotions, reactions, with others...relationships help keep things in perspective...

OTR deprived me of that for many years and months...

It's just not worth it to me anymore...don't care how nice the truck is...not in todays climate anyways...

20 years ago, when drivers were a lot more friendly to each other...sure...but in todays satellite radio culture, talk on the cell phone 24/7 culture, even while in the bathroom...nah...

But again...it all depends on your own personal situation, and where your at in life...

Only you can determine whats best for you and when...

That sums up what I was thinking. I was going to start a new post but decided to search instead, glad I did. I'm in the middle of my second week otr at PRIME, I'm using them to get my cdl. I'll be testing at the beginning of next week to get my cdl. Living in a truck is no kind of life for me, PRIME's company drivers are out 3 or 4 weeks at a time. I thought I would like it, but it's a whole different thing when you're actually out here away from family and friends. I'm just going to stay with it long enough to get my cdl and look for a local job hauling gas. I already have done and passed the hazmat endorsement test, so that's all I'll need.

That was my goal from the beginning, but I read posts saying I would need years of experience to get one of those jobs. I already have done and passed the hazmat endorsement test, so that's all I'll need. Oh and that statement about weeks of isolation having odd effects on one's perspective of theirself and the world around them, I think I'm witnessing that with this trainer..he's definitely a bit off. I don't know if he was already like that, or if it's a result of 13 years in isolation. Thanks ghostchild for writing it more clearly than I was thinking it.

    ghostchild and U4EA Thank this.

No, thank you for validating what I wrote...

Sometimes I feel a bit 'quacky' on here...

    [IMG].....Aflac!

cause I'm not sure how people recieve what I write...but my aim is always just to be honest...not right or wrong, but honest in how I feel or how things effect me at the 'moment'...

Sorry i didn't respond sooner...been floating around elsewhere on the net...

But please take heart in knowing you're not alone, and that many others have walked that path before you...and have survived...

Don't those gas companies require exp before you can haul for them?
