"Zipper"?
As a green tree hugger, to save fuel and pollution, I am usually at 50 mph on I-70, always in the right lane.
Truckers not infrequently pass me.
I hate the idea of "traffic harmonization" which the CSP apparently has been doing approaching the tunnels.
[Wide Load] when cargo inside flatbed dimensions?

These guys are so over regulated that you have no idea. Here's a suggestion if you really want to know what rules and regs they have to follow, get your hands on the Safety Book that these guys have to follow and read. It's over 750 pages of rules and regulations that they have to follow.
Then, you might understand that they really are not trying to annoy the 4 wheeling community, but simply trying to comply with state and federal regulations that have been imposed on them to do their jobs.Robert Gift and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
For the record, I'm an advocate of responsible environmental stewardship of the planet myself. I don't drive excessively slow to do it, but I do preach things like minimal idling, etc.
However, did you ever think of getting a more efficient vehicle that wouldn't impede traffic while getting great fuel mileage and therby, maintaining that tree hugger status? Possibly a hybrid SUV that could do the speed limit? I wouldn't give an Expedition a 5 star Eco-friendly rating.
I tried to come to Mr. Gifts defense here in the name of peace-keeping, and I'm sure I didn't win any popularity contest because of it. And what frustrates me as I type this, is after all the explaining, just the fact that the light were annoying are reason enough to automatically assume they are being run unnecessarily.
They probably weren't. There were enough intelligent responses here to make me want to believe that the driver of said vehicle was doing his job correctly.
It's like the arrow signs coming into construction zones, for your benefit and safety, Mr. Gift. Do you realize that they are at eye level to most tractor-trailer drivers and basically are so bright and blinding, that most of us have to blink so we can see once we pass them?!?
Completely annoying, but we deal with it, so you can have a safer trip.
We know a lane is closed way before the general motoring public does. We read the signs, so we don't need a big old dummy arrow telling us to move over. Just food for thought.Robert Gift Thanks this. -

To the OP.....Those of us who run OD and Heavy-haul loads are not amateurs....
We take our profession seriously....We have to live or die by rules and regs....
Without us...Your roads could not be built.....Your skyscrapers would not exist......
A little inconvenience of having to deal with strobes and slow trucks should be the least of your worries in life..... -
The one ld. was being moved by Perkins out of Mn.
Friend of mine works there. That ld. was going to Clive,Ut.
It took a year of planning to move it..
The trl. alone was over 1 millon dollars, just to build it.
They had some of the running gear, but to make it right and do the job without failure took planning and beefing up every thing.
Plus all the support vechiles in the move.
Not for the wanna be's or cheap haulers. -
