I pull with a 2009 Chevy 3500 HD and I load my trailer to just at 20,000 maybe a bit more at times. I've never had any problems with that weight. When its hay season I might load more and as for my truck it sure does like going over 27,000. I do it for short distances though.

As far as the dodge plenty of may friends use them and they are loading 25,000 daily. The ones that haul flatbed exceed this more than us carhaulers and replace parts more but are also driving off road more.

What I meant was if your not overloading the back axle then you should be alright

Sounds like you other guys might have more info than me but that is my 2 cents.

You're bringing up a key point . Just know your axle weights and tire ratings because that's what they go by at the scales .

True, but I know where one driver was asked about the GCWR once.

I would not be surprised to see this becoming a revenue issue in the future.

all trucks only have a recommended GCWR, as long as it stays that way you can pull however much weight you want, as long as you don't exceed your tire ratings.

So, then a dot officer decides to "enforce" the recommendation and issue a ticket. It could be ugly and you are still in compliance with the tire ratings.

a recommendation can not be enforced, or they would have done so before ;)

they would have a hard time explaining how they let you register for 36k and now are giving you a ticket for it.

Does anybody have a truck with the GCWR shown on it anywhere ? I've never seen one .
I tried to find the old thread on the Dodge diesel forum showing some of the outrageous loads they hauled but couldn't find it .

Here is something I found on the 2011 Dodge.

    http://www.allpar.com/trucks/ram/ram-chassis-cabs.html

The Ram Heavy Duty is aimed at commercial and fleet users, buyers of serious, diesel-powered chassis cabs; upfitter friendliness and maintenance costs are best in class. Lowering maintenance costs and increasing stopping power, the Ram 4500/5500 has the largest front brake rotors (390 mm) and calipers (66 mm) in its class, with a standard diesel exhaust brake. The standard diesel 24,000 lb. Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and optional 26,000 lb. GCWR package are both best-in-class on 3500.
