Nj will sometimes enforce this. The thing is I dont really care if if somebody's tandems are front, back or in the middle. Roll down the road how ever you please if your not hurting anyone why would you care where they are.

It's fun to watch these trucks in town popping every curb and just missing lightpoles.

I don't give a #### what the regs are, I regularly hual 53' trailers, loaded and unloaded, with the tandems slid all the back. Is it a pain, yep, have I had a problem nope. Colorado, Wyo., KS, NM, Utah, MT, NE, SD, ND, never had an issue. BTW, in a wind storm, if you can't park it, slide the tandems all the way back on a 53' to give it stability.

    Funny how people can not read and comprehend;
Federal law states that for twin axles the ONLY distance that matters is
You can NOT be less than 36' between axles at 34,000 per set.
    There is NO length restriction.

There is one exception to the use of the
formula and table: two consecutive sets of
tandem axles may carry a gross load of
    34,000 pounds each'providing the overall
distance between the first and last axles of
such consecutive sets of tandem axles is 36
feet or more. For example, a 5-axle
tractor-semitrailer may be used to haul a
full 34,000 pounds on the tandem of the
tractor (axles 2 and 3) and the tandem of the
trailer (axles 4 and 5), providing there is a
spacing of 36 or more feet between axles 2
and 5. A spacing of 36 feet or more for axles
2 through 5 is satisfactory for an actual W
of 68,000 pounds even though the formula
or table computes W maximum to be
66,000 to 67,500 pounds for spacings of 36
to 38 feet. This special exception is stated in
    the Federal law.

They told us that over the Qualcomm the other day.....

How exactly does moving the tandems all the way back give you more stability in high winds?

Can't find the regs just now, but I think it varies from state to state. And yes if you're running all the way back 1 anal DOT man can give you a bad day. It has
    to do with OAL.

There is NO OAL law on the interstates and STAA routes.
