Yeah, it was hard to change from yellow to beige. I even had to install a fiberglass molded cover over it, so that looks exactly like a C-16
The dag gum noise it's a makin' is a givin' it's self away though.

It's time for them to learn something new. There was some discussion in Hot Rod or Popular Hotrodding magazine a couple of years ago about the subject, if you don't believe europeans. They didn't buy the percentual loss thing either. Those percents might be close when talking about stock engines but it can not stay the same with double or triple the horsepower.
There's Kiwis dynosheets somewhere around here, they used something like 10% loss with stock engine. Kiwi was complaining about too low power so I doubt Cat was using too low a loss. Only effect wheelbase has is if there's more u-joints or supporting bearings. -
Not sure if thats the right page?Attached Files:

Yes. At 1600 rpm the loss is 70hp, at 1200rpm 35 hp, 12% and 7%. If using corrected numbers it's a little bit lower.
-
I still dont see how guessing about the HP at the crank and the driveline loss makes sense, only way to do this and have legitimate results is to engine dyno then chassis dyno and compare numbers.
Guessing about the loss without actually know is like using the seat of your pants as a dyno, let's just say its this and not do anything to back it up. At this point without checking I'm on the fence either way. -
If I understand right Kiwis truck was dynoed at official Cat dealer, manufacturer has probably done a lot of testing and knows what the losses are. There is german MAHA and Australian Dyno Dynamics dynos for big rigs that do a coastdown test to measure drivetrain losses, not 100% correct of course but better than quessing or some % drawn from hat. We have MAHA, it showed about 120 hp loss to one 16 litre Scania with twin screw and hub reduction axles at 715 whp. Those axles are very hard to spin.

V8 Lenny...are you a diesel engine tuner or a diesel shop or just someone with a knowledge of diesel big rigs?
-
I don't know? Owner driver who used to do some truck racing and pulling, have some friends working at diesel shops and doing ECM programming and dynoing. Reading a lot about engines.
-
Its a 164 580 you drive tuned to 700+bhp or thereabouts?...What modifications did you do to achieve this...How does it perform trucking around Europe?

Mr. Haney I need your help on some C15 PDI info before I pull the trigger done allot of reading anyways I can't PM you because of low post count. Can you Email me your info or a way to contact you at snowjw3090 @ yahoo.com Thanks again Justin
