Great jobs in Texas

United Rentals, the company the hubs works for put us in an apt for up to 6 months, expenses paid, so that def helped the housing issue. but we are gonna be on a waiting list for housing. but i wanna stay in odessa so i dont have to be far from the kids while ther are in school and at the sitters. but i dont mind it here so far, just dont like the prices of the housing. but, it is what it is. i am gonna get my credit straight and start working on using my VA loan to buy a home.

 

What has happened to the Midland / Odessa area in past downswings of exploration/production? Will this boom last beyond 5-7 years?

 

According to employees and management here at Silverline there are ups and downs every few years (2008 being the last big down). But the boss says the "Eagle Ford shale" is going to be big and last at least the next several years.

 

Where to find a driver job here in TX being a NEWBIE...

 

I ended up flying down to San Antonio since everyone suggested going down in person. I went to Sanjel, Nabors, Westen Petroleum, and a couple of other places. I unfortunately missed a job fair the day before I left and could have hit a lot more places in one shot. No responses yet unfortunately, but a few people like the fact that I flew down from Chicago to job hunt. I should have planned a little more to effectively use my limited time there. Sanjel seemed to be interviewing people with frac experience first.

Is there a huge difference in what crude drivers make as opposed to frac drivers? Any suggestions on which companies pay the most or are the best to work for and why. I have 2 years driving experience with some pulling doubles with T and X endorsements. I have read this and the ND thread but I'm not clear on exactly who hauls what either. Thanks for any feedback.

 

I showed up here in Midland Odessa TX 3 days ago and have already had several job offers My HUGE problem is that I've asked a LOT of oil workers and they tell me there isn't anywhere to rent and all motels are always full!! I have been sleeping in my truck. So my question is... Is there any placees in Texas where I can get an oilfield tanker job that doesn't have a MAJOR problem with housing???? I don't have much money so I need to get to a place and quickly start working. I'm a newbee class A driver with all my needed endorsements. I'm prepared to move down the road one more time.... and no I can't afford an RV. I'm interested in Basic Energy. Key. Nabors. Maxum. Sunoco Logistics etc. San Antonio???? Plentiful work just NO housing!

I see that you are in the Midland/Odessa area. If you were to consider
Bay City, Texas you may still find that Sunoco has a demand for crude
drivers there. They were offering a relocation package according to
the website. However, that puts you back across the state SW of
Houston. What to do.

 

Look for housing outside Midland/Odessa like Big Spring, Ft Stockton, and Pecos. Even when you do find a place around Midland it's overpriced or you wouldn't want to live there anyways.

 

Is there enough ongoing work west/southwest of Lubbock, for example,
Sundown. Levelland, Seminole, Denver City, Lamesa,
for the man to consider looking for living arrangements
in those towns?
