Depends on the radio operator........as a general rule, you are probably correct.

Hi Russell. Long time no see. I figured I would post this info for anybody needing a decent technician: I guess we are not allowed to post useful information on this site. :biggrin_2558:

If anyone needs a good technician, talk to Russell AB7IF :biggrin_2558:

I can also vouch for Q5

There is training involved, but no licensing. All the best technicians in the country have one thing in common: 2 years in a technical school for electronics, or many years studying underneath someone who fulfilled the above.:biggrin_25514:

The FCC does not see the need to license or require a license for radio repair . That eneded in 1982 .....

I was going to post a link to the white list of cb shops for anyone wanting to locate a properly trained radio technician with the proper equipment, but It would not let me post a link. Russell Clift is on that list of good technicians, but there are 5 or 6 other good ones scattered around the country.

The guy who does my radio work specializes in all the above.
I know a couple other guys who do excellent work(but not quite as good)
who got a 2 year degree in electrical engineering.

there are a lot of things not taught in electrical engineering that are completely essential to understand when it comes to transceivers.

Cutting the limiter does nothing unless you run the mic gain wide open. If you keep the mic gain cut back, then you eliminate the need for the modulation limiter.

Cutting the limiter is the single worst thing you can do to a radio.
