I have worked for Mcleod Express since Dec of 2011. They are a good company from where I sit. They keep you rolling and the cpm isn't bad. Yeah trucking company's are all the same, there is freight to be moved and its the drivers job to run the trk safely. Yeah they ( all trucking company's) will ask you too run somehow someway that isn't right. If it isn't right don't do it. They know as well as you should know that it is as simple as making a phone call to safety and if it can't be fixed there then call the D.O.T. I have a dispatcher named Tony, I think he is cool as hell, now I don't know if he or any of the people in that office have ever driven a truck, that's not my job to know. Its my job to do my job and do it safely. We are gonna bump heads and may not see eye too eye about a lot of things, but bottom line if you don't think it safe then don't do it.

Hey I moved to Illinois from Texas and got my CDL switched over 3 months ago, I have always driven local and have been driving for the last 5 years but recently got hired driving for a small company driving flatbed and we drive regionally and from Illlinois to OH,IN,IA, PA, etc.. So only have about 3 months experience driving otr..and we have paper log books and get paid like 600 weekly after taxes and I come home like 2 times a week and have weekends off. But recently have been looking into other Companies because I am only making 35cents a mile loaded and 25 cents unloaded and I feel like thats not enough. I recently looked into Mcleod and am curious if this is a good company and may be a better option for me??

I've been with McLeod for two years and I'm here to tell you the place is a joke. I have never worked for a company that cares so little for their employees safety. They put on a good show but when It comes down to they could care less. Mitzi ( the head of safety is clueless and could care less about her drivers. As long as her ego is kept in tact and she gets her bonus she is happy. Advice to anyone looking for a job...... Stay away from McLeod.

saftey starts when the driver is sleeping and stops when the driver is awake. So why r u still with this company?

I'm looking for something different. I always make a commitment to myself to give a company at least two years. I don't like changing jobs and I like to give any employer time to get things straight. McLeod is only getting worse.

MichaelJ, I hear you there about them. I have worked for them twice now the first time was a bit different as I was running a tanker for them and the guy they sent over to run the satellite terminal was cool. I found my first flaw with a driver they called lead driver for the tankers. He had only drove a straight truck and could not for the life of him back up the tanker but yet he wanted to tell me I HAD to work and 18hr shift. Last I recalled DOT only allows 14hrs of driving when local and truthful we didn't even drive the full 14. I was fired because of not working a 18hr shift and I could have fought it but figured they had someone that didn't have a clue what he was doing as a lead driver that it was no place for me. Now I went back a couple years later and ran regional for them and was doing ok until I seen the most they would give you is less than 2000 miles a week, more like 1800. I could not survive on that and you spoke of Mitzi. I never had an issue with her but now one of the DM, now that is a different story. Let's set this picture here, I was staying with my girlfriend and things happen that there was some issues of me staying there so I asked this DM many times to let me take home time in Indianapolis as I have family living there so I could get out of the truck for a weekend. He would say I will see what I can do but when the time came I was sent right back to MO for home time because he never tried to help me out. So when I quit I dropped my truck off at the Indiana terminal and called letting them know and they told me that would be considered abandonment. Now knowing how that follows you on the DAC I couldn't have that so I told them I would drive it back to Decatur and drop it off. My then DM had me run by a company and pick up a trailer they needed back in IL so I did and drove it all back and went in and turned in the keys to the truck and told them where the trailer was dropped. Now from my understanding they didn't report it to DAC but still have me in Their system and abandoning that truck in Indiana. So needless to say I would not recommend anyone to them.
DADof3 Thanks this.
