The major difference being, in a sailboat in bad weather, you're taking those tarps in and stowing them away. Can always sail slow till the sun comes out.
In a truck, you'll be putting them in and out, and they'll be frozen stiff, and dirty to boot.
But hey, as a sailor, at least you'll have the getting wet thing down ;^)

Another parking option would be storage facilities. Many offer secure parking for tractors. The cost will be a little more, but it will be secure.
Worth the look.Perpetual Thanks this. -
Just finished up on the phone with Roehl recruiter. The official offer has been made and accepted. Going to orientation either 20 or 27 Feb depending on whether the local medical exam can be completed in time.
Woo hoo I am super excited !
Many thanks again for all those who offered words of wisdom on this thread and many others.
More later...

Perpetual,
I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I am about to get out of the Marine Corps and have been in talks with Roehl and Schneider over the past couple weeks. I've been leaning towards Roehl for the same reasons you have, namly the flatbed option. I'm certain that there will be no issues with my physical, and I have nothing in the pass that would prevent me from being hired. With any luck at all I should be starting mid to late March. Hopefully I'll pass you by on the road sometime!Perpetual Thanks this. -

Just got a call from the medical screening vendor (Comp Care). My appointment is tomorrow morning at 9:00am at a place about 30-40 minutes away. I expect zero problems.
As mentioned in an earlier post, once the candidate has accepted the offer, Roehl has us go through another DOT physical on their nickel in our home area. This saves time and money in case there is a problem. It also provides up to date medical status of the employee-to-be. Makes good sense.
If Comp Care return the results to Roehl in time, I may be going to orientation on 20 Feb. If not, then 27 Feb. Hope it is the earlier date.

Just want to say thanks for this thread. It is really helpful I am in my first week of CDL school and already seen three recruiters. I go for my written test Saturday. I will be following your thread nightly.
Thanks again
