Something else you probably don't know about then is bridge legnth. Look in your atlas for the states requirements. Usually no longer than 41' from king pin to center of tandems. Also, its a good idea to get an empty weight on your truck, noting how much fuel youre carrying. Diesel is 8 pounds per gallon. finally, if you cant get to a scale right away, put your tandems fully under the freight. You can count the seams inside andmatch it to the outside. Hope that helps

I couldn't read all of these posts, but the point everyone is making is that the only way the school or trainer failed you was by not teaching you to use the Atlas! that is the most important tool you have and the one ignored the most. I had a cop pull me over once and tell me I was wrong to be where I was I showed him the atlas and where I had it marked he let me go and showed me the right way. so please buy the Atlas get you a god TS guide their cheap and learn from the mistake. you will get better ! good luck and enjoy the ride.

I have read this thread and have refrained from commenting, however. I community do that a ny longer.

The reason no one talks about it on here is because common sense is an assumption. This is a common sense issue. If you are unaware of what you can or do weigh, you, have no business driving a truck.

To the OP- when you took the wheel to that truck, you became responsible,PERIOD. Suddenly and this part really stinks, you can blame no one but yourself , PERIOD. It is your responsibility to know and understand all you can about this industry. Should your school or trainer have taught you more, perhaps, and perhaps You didn't listen that day.

Bottom line is the fact that so few people are willing to take responsibility for their actions in the world in which we live. You cannot come on this board and expect sympathy from anyone, what you did is only your fault, you failed to educate Oyourself and now You hate been educated, put on your big boy undies, learn all you can and enjoy your career.

This is what we run into with the Professional school taught drivers. Everything that happens is someone elses fault. These guys break everything they touch and run theses trucks around like they are sports cars Please do not get me started Go get another tatoo andpull your shorts up and put your hat on with the bill facing forward Sorry guys but it needs to be said

The Quiktrip is at the 178. The scales aren't until the 160. If he's heading South, he passed the Quiktrip before he got to the state scales.

I haven't caught up with all of the replies yet, but today I took the good advice here and broke out the atlas to see where the weigh scales are and got on the CB and found a scale at a Big Red in Arkansas. The funny thing is that I put it in the 10th hole and I was legal, but the weight was uneven so I put it in the 11th hole to make it even. I have another heavy 43500 pound load.
